OxyClean can't be beat! I got hot pink vomit completely out of my white carpet with OxyClean. Just follow the directions.
One of my greatest fears: vomiting
Secondary to that: Cleaning it up
My darling son came down with a stomach bug in the middle of the night and threw up once on his carpet and once next my bed (when coming to tell me *sigh*).
I have a feeling it is going to leave a huge stain. What's the best method to get it out?

Hey Colleen,
Sorry to hear about your son, and your mess! However, there is a product called Nature's Miracle that works really well. It's a product usually used for pet urine and vomit stains, but the fact that it's an enzymatic cleaner makes all the difference. You can get it at PetCo or PetsMart. Good luck and hope your boy is feeling better!

Def don't use warm water , it intensifies the smell for a start (learnt that the hard way) , I would initially use cold water with laundry detergent in and a brush , give it a good scrub (you may need to do this several times and the carpet will be very wet) , soak up excess water with paper towel and wait for it to dry to assess what the stain/smell is like & repeat of necessary , once you are happy the smell is gone you can then spray with febreze or similar product.
this will sound crazy, but my husband did it when our son puked on his carpet. It was an old college trick he learned. Apparently he had to get vomit out of a few carpets. :|
Anyway, spray window cleaner on the carpet and then scrape it up with a spoon. I swear by it.
The carpet is as good as new!
Don't over-soak the carpet with water -- you can't always get it fully dry afterward though it may appear dry, and if the underside and the padding beneath stay damp, you're on the way to developing mold. I'd call a carpet store and ask what they recommend. Or: We had good luck with sopping up as much as we could with lots and lots of paper towels, letting the remainder dry some, and using Resolve brand carpet stain remover, but that was for a small area. That may not work for you if these are very large areas of stain. Anyway, I'd use a carpet product.
My stepson threw up a strawberry smoothie once so we had pink carpet. Ugh. What worked was a paste made out of a little laundry detergent, oxiclean and vinegar. I used a toothbrush to scrub. Don't soak the carpet but a little water if necessary is okay. If you don't have a carpet cleaner then try a small wet/dry vac. They are only about $25 for the tiny ones and are VERY useful!
Resolve Carpet Cleaner seems to work well. Just follow the directions on the bottle if you choose that product, of course.
I would suggest you clean it with soem sort of carpet stain remover. In the future it would be a great idea to invest in a carpet cleaner. We have one and it's worth it's weight in gold! My friend's son got sick and threw up on my carpet, that carpet cleaner was amazing, cleaned it rigth up. All the stains that got on the carpet from leaked cups of milk or juice, its been a great cleaner!
