What's to Wear During Potty Training Period at Night?

My son is under potty training. He is pretty good in day time. However, he is now waking up at nights (usually he won't before potty training) and telling me he wants to go pee pee. I am asking you, as experienced moms, about your opinion: Should I put regular diaper on him during the night or any other good absorbent pants? Should I wake him up during the night to get him peed? And should I put a potty chair in the room or bathroom? I welcome any suggestions and look forward to try them. Thanks....

What can I do next?

I don't see a problem with making the switch to a pull-up at night time only. Our pediatrician actually said that they don't expect full night-time dryness until age 4! I would just praise him for his efforts duing the day and start calling his pull-up or diaper his "night-night" pants or something to make the distinction. If you haven't done pull-ups at all yet, you could get some now and help him understand that they are only for sleeping in.

I don't know if I would revert to training pants or overnight diapers as it sounds like he is making very good progress. Your son is potty training a bit earlier than my son but b/4 we go to bed ourselves we take our now 3 y/o to put him on the potty one last time. Sometimes he does still wake up (and calls us) to go in the middle of the night. But most time with us taking him b/4 we go sleep is all he needs. And he doesn't really wake up when we do this.

Good luck.

We used pull-ups at night time. It didn't affect my children's potty training during the day. Boys pee more often at night than girls.

It's good that he is waking you up to tell you he needs to use the bathroom. I would stop liquids 1 hour before bedtime. Have him go right before he gets into bed. Place waterproof fitted sheet on his bed, an absorbent towel on that and then the usual bedding, and use regular underwear. Do not give in the to ease of using diapers at night. He is doind good and that would only undo it. But that is only my two cents.

Good luck.

Pull up training pants are good, and it does not hurt to have him go potty when he wakes up and says he has to go...my daughter would grind her teeth and that would stop when I woke her and had her go pee. If he drink close to bed...it won't hurt to wake him to go pee a few hours later.

The only time I used pull-ups was during naps and night time- we just called them sleeping underware!

I dont really reccomend pull-ups...my daughter thought they were a diaper and would pee in them just as she would a diaper so that was pointless. I think its best once they are in panties keep them only in those no matter what and just keep reminding them to not pee in them...once they do a few times trust me they will want to go to the bathroom to pee. I just told her she needs to wake me up if she needed to go potty and that her and her whole bed and doll she sleeps with will get all wet and grosse if she pees in her bed. She has never peeded in her bed!
