What Time of Day Do You Get Your Exercise In?

I really need to start exercising on a daily basis. I try to get up in the morning but I am too tired and I don't feel like exercising during naptime because it is my time to get stuff done. After that it starts to get too late and busy with dinner time and everything. What time of the day does everyone else exercise?

What can I do next?

I'm at the gym at 5 a.m. while the house is still asleep. I considered myself pretty "awesome" for doing this until I read another response you received that said she works out at 3 a.m. WOW!!! Good luck finding what works for you! You can do it!!

I found a boot camp at 5:30am 3 days a week that I go to. That way my husband is home with the kids. I hate getting up that early, but it is the only way I can find to exercise.

If I don't do it early in the morning it doesn't happen. I like to get up and workout before the kids are up but like you I struggle to get out of bed. I found that making myself go to bed earlier so I get in at least 7 hours of sleep really helps.

I agree with Tricia... First thing in the morning. Over the years, as schedules have changed, I've tried different time frames and this is the only one that works for any length of time. As for being tired, I would suggest not only getting to bed early, but giving your new routine a few weeks. Once you start working out on a regular basis, you'll have more energy and want to get up. Finally, even when you don't want to do it... DO. No matter how tired I am, I never regret working out, only when I didn't.
Good Luck!

I know this sounds insane, but I go at 3 in the morning. That is best time for me, dad is asleep with the kids, and I don’t feel as if I’m taking away from them when we get home from work and school. No it is not easy to wake up and get motivated, but once you are out there, it really pumps you up for the rest of the day.

UGH! Do I know how hard is to get up early and do the workout thing! But as one mom said once you get into a routine and give it a week or so of doing it consistently you WILL get your energy levels up and it becomes a routine like getting the kids ready for school. I do my work out after my 10 yr old is at school and before lunch. For me working out at home is not an option...I'm not motivated enough to do it at home. I just moved here from Atlanta and when I was there we were members of the Y and they had a great program for the little ones, so while I was working out my daughter was getting interaction and playtime with other little ones. The key to working out is consistency and changing up your routine a little. Don't get stuck doing the same exact routine and/or cardio machines as it's almost as if your body reaches a sort of plateau so to say. Good Luck!

I do it before two - as soon as the urge hits. Sometimes it hits early in the morning, sometimes it's closer to 8 or 10. I do a 30 minute Leslie Sansone video, though - it's not like it takes a lot of time.

You're right - the 3 - 6 pm hours are our bewitching hours too. I do mine right after I do morning drop off - around 8 am. When my daughter wasn't in MDO (she's now 3), I took her with me on walks or set her up with paint or playdough so I could get at least 30 minutes in.

Also, right after bed time is a good time to do yoga, ab workouts, things that don't make much noise and don't require you to get all hyped up before bed are good for me.

Best of luck! I know it's hard - I work at home and work out in or around home!

As a busy Mom there is always something you feel you "should" be doing, but exercising is for you and your health. Once you make it a priority you will find a time that best suits you. So what will happen if you don't get "stuff" done at naptime? Dirtier house? I suggest letting it go.... or when your husband is home on the weekends split the chores you couldn't get done during the week. Or, is the "stuff" getting dinner started? Make a play area in the kitchen where you can watch your kids while you do it. Let go of something and move the exercise to the top of the list. It is okay to make yourself high priority. You are worth it, and your family needs you healthy.
