What to Do with Smokey Diapers?

A friend of mine gave me an opened package of about 40 huggies newborn diapers (I just found out that I'm pregnant) and they've been sitting in a cigarette-smoked-in garage. I gave my daughter (shes 2 1/2) one to put on her baby doll, but I don't know what to do with them. Should I throw them out b/c they've been exposed to smoke or donate them or what? I don't want to use them on my own baby, and I'm not sure if I would I would want even a needy baby to wear them. What would you do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies. Throwing them out was what I was leaning towards. I only gave one to my daughter before I realized that they were smokey. Yuck! What a shame!

I would throw them out myself, but you could always try putting them on Craigslist for someone who does smoke around their children. It is a shame that some people do, but we've all seen it, and their children need diapers, too. Sometimes that kind of generosity is something someone really needs. It couldn't hurt if you just post an honest Free Ad. Otherwise, definitely don't use them.

I'd donate them to a women's shelter. Some of the moms needing them are likely to be smokers. That's kind of a sad thing to think about, but just the way it is. The diapers may as well be doing someone some good. Be sure to note that they smell smokey.

Throw them out! There is now a link between 3rd-Hand smoke (on clothing, residual in couches, etc.) and SIDS. It's not worth the risk to your baby. I wouldn't even give them to your older daughter. No sense in exposing her to that either. Good luck!

Chunk 'em.

Or, stash them in the garage in case of "spill" emergencies. They are great for absorbing spilled water, juice or even a pet accident. At least then you would have one tiny piece of mind that you used them for something!!!

P.S. I cant for the life of me, figure out why people smoke around their children or childrens belongings :( ....or in their car WITH their kids....:(

You should definitely just throw them out....there are dangers to being exposed to third hand smoke and especially for a newborn's sensitive system...those particles can create a health hazard both from being absorbed into the skin and from being inhaled. Needy babies don't need any more problems!

Throw them out. And keep away from your 2 1/2 year old as well.
