My 3 year old son has an appointment with Dr. Tanna the end of the month for an allergic reaction he had with a fire ant bite. I'm not real sure what to expect and wondering if anyone could give me a clue. Will my son be poked with a bunch of needles? Test run? Is the first apoointment more for just information? I would just like to know what to prepare for. Thanks Mama's.

What can I do next?

Usually for adults they just get the information and symptoms, but I would be prepared for testing. When I had mine done, it wasn't individual needles, but a thing that looked like a grid of tiny needles. They did 5 separate sections on different parts of the body. One tray had plants, one had animals, one had trees... and so on. Then you sit there for a while and they come back to "read" the results on your body.

We also see Dr. Tanna and he is a marvelous doctor. I adore him and he changed my oldest sons life! At our visit he wasn't poked or prodded - we were sent out to get blood work done. Typically at this age they just do blood testing. We discovered that our son was allergic to milk, eggs, cat dander, mold, etc. He has done quite well under Dr. Tanna's care - he is a great physician! Good luck!

My son was tested for allergies when he was 6, and they poked him with close to a hundred small needles on his back and upper arms. It was not fun, but we needed to know why he was constantly coughing and sneezing. Because of the testing, we know to have air cleaners in the house, special covers for his bed and pillows, and other things to help reduce the amount of medicine he has to take. he has not been diagnosed with asthma, and we hope to be able to prevent that, if possible. hope this helps!

We go to Dr. Tanna also. We have a 2 1/2 year old. The first appointment he talks to you about the symptoms your child is experiencing, your child's history-birth, medical issues, medicines your child has been on. He sent our child to Cook's to get testing. Our child has asthma also so he ordered blood testing and an X-Ray for his chest. He was not poked and hopefully, your child won't go thru that. I'm not sure what age they do the needle testing, hopefully it is mostly used for adults. I can't see a child lying there for very long.
Basically, he gives you paperwork to take to Cook's Hospital and gives you samples/prescriptions if he thinks you need the medication. He examines your child's nose, ears and mouth and listens to the child's lungs/breathing. He goes over your paperwork (long paperwork that you fill out). I suggest filling out that paperwork ahead of time instead of at the office. You can go to their website and print it off and bring it in with you. They want to know so much about your family history, your child's history-medical and your home environment also.

We love Dr. Tanna, our whole family sees him. Hope this helps you. C.
