My daughter loved beans, cubed sweet potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts (quartered and roasted for 15mins with a sprinkle of salt).

At that age, my son liked mashed up banana and those Gerber puffs that just disintegrate in the baby's mouth.

All kinds of good stuff- you can cook some sweet potatoes or regular potatoes and give that to him. You can get a food chopper and really chop up most of your foods and give it to him. I used to boil chicken breast and then cut it up and put into little freezer bags for my sons. My first son I fed the gerber #3 foods but they just made my second son sick so I had to get a little more creative. Just try to make sure the consistency is not too thick or lumpy and increase it as he seems to be doing better with it.

here is a wonderful source of information and recipes for food for babies. I used this site a lot for my firstborn.
At 9-10 months our little guy primarily ate the same things that we ate for dinner. i just softened his portion a little more than ours, or shredded his meat in a blender. It was a great way to introduce our son to a wide variety of foods before he was old enough to be picky and refuse!

I made most of my baby's food because it was 1) way cheaper and 2) I knew all of the ingredients were wholesome and not fillers or harmful to baby like salt and sugar.

Give him anything you want. Its recommended to stay away from certain foods (eggs, peanut-products, hot dogs, popcorn, shellfish) until after the 1st birthday.

One of my son's favorites was baked apples. I would peel and slice them and put them in a pyrex dish with just enough water to cover them. I sprinkled cinnamon and nutmeg on the top and baked them at 350* until they were tender.

At that age I also started buying the bags of frozen mixed veggies and would steam them until they were soggy.

I would make meatloaf with chopped veggies and rice cereal mixed in with it. I would then chop/cut it bite size and freeze it in individual serving sizes for my son.

what ever you want, just cut it into really small pieces, and make sure that it is soft. As soon as my kids were old enough, I gave them smaller portions of what we were eating for them to feed themselves. It's messy, alot ends up on the floor, but it's worth it. Get a plastic cover, or shower curtain form the dollar store and keep it under the chair that he sits in.

Miles' (14 mos. now) favorites at that age, in addition to almost everything Kate H said, were eggs and avocado. I hard-boiled eggs, and spoon-fed him the solid yolk or let him feed himself small chunks. The consistency kind of 'melts-in-your-mouth' so it's easy for a first solid. Avocado is still one of his favorites, the texture is perfect: solid enough to start practicing self-feeding, but soft enough to chew without many teeth.

Have fun!!

fruit and plain vegetables
you dont want to feed them food that is heavily seasoned or spiced but basically what ever you eat is good enough for them just cut it up small enough for them to pick up and hold and expect lots of mess this is a learning process. if you make them a seperate meal every time you can expect to do it for the rest of your life!

Hi

He can start having a wide variety of foods now , and 9 months is a common age for them to lose interest in pureed baby foods. He can have pasta , toast , sandwiches , crakcers (Like ritz) bread sticks , an assortment of vegetables , sweet potato fries were a hit with mine. To be honest you can pretty much give him what you are eating (no nuts yet) , just cut it up smaller for him. My daughter would eat penne pasta with meat sauce , lasagne cut into small child sized pieces , for breakfast I gave her pancakes , bagels , different kinds of cereals (cheerios , bran flakes , cornflakes) , he will eat with his hands but this is all part of the fun and learning. Hummus is a good thing aswell , spread onto crackers or dip some cuccumber sticks into it.

Have fun!
