What to Tip a Car Detailer

I'm having my car detailed & I'm wondering what an appropriate tip would be-the standard 15-20%?

ETA: the normal price is $148, but I bought a Groupon & paid $69. It's a town & country van with 3 carseats. (I'm not expecting them to do anything with the carseats, tho-just hoping they run a vacuum over them real quick)

What can I do next?

Katie, how much are you paying? Here, a detailer asks for $350. I would NOT tip a detailer who charges that kind of money. (Then again, I won't pay to get my car detailed LOL!)

If your detailer charges $100 or less, give him $10. Detailing a car is not like going to the salon, and you really do not have to tip AT ALL.

I take my car to a detailed at the cou try club and his regular prices are 1/2 what some other detailers are plus he has too notch work.

My full detail with wax is $70 and I just give him $100 cash because I'm still getting a great deal with someone who knows my car and what I like.

At true as it is that you don't have to tip, my thoughts are they deserve a tip just like any other service. I feel just as good when my hair looks nice as when my truck looks nice.

If they stink and you don't even think their service is worthy of what they ask - nothing.

If they did the job and tried and just weren't that good - 10%.

If they did a nice job and the van looks nice and bright and shiny - 15%.

If they did their job and then some...you said you didn't expect them to do anything with the car seats, but they do - 15 to 20%.

I think 8-10% is appropriate. Also, always base your tip off of the price before discount! So if its regularly $148, I would suggest giving the guy(s) about 10 bucks.
