We're just about to begin serious potty-training, so I'm expecting a few accidents. What should I have on hand to get urine out of the carpet? Any hints on cleaning up accidents?

Vinegar works great, and once it dries it doesn't leave a smell. Also very inexpensive. You can use it for pet accidents too.

NATURE'S MIRACLE!

You can find it at most pet supply stores. It is in a white bottle with red writing. We have 4 cats, 1 dog, and a potty training child and our house doesn't smell like it. I don't know what I would do with out NM! It is even great at cleaning old stains and blood stains. With really nasty stinky stains you sometimes have to let it sit for a couple of days while the enzyms work, but they will go away.

Good luck!

My sister taught me to get a water squirt bottle and a box of baking soda. spray the spot to make it lightly damp. Then dump a good amount of baking soda on the spot. Then wait untill the spot is dry and the soda seems to suck out the odor. Then vacume it up. works good for vomit also. I like the idea of no chemicals. I am not so sure if it kills germs but urine is sterile so i guess it doesnt need too. It has always worked for me.

Believe it or not, go to the dollar store and buy a bottel of Awesome all purpose cleaner. It works on EVERYTHING! I have used a million different expensive and professional products for carpet cleaning and was surprised that a dollar bottel of cleaner in works great! Try diluteing it half and half at first to test on the carpet, but I have used it full strength in my carpet cleaner and works on EVERYTHING! Grease, blood, chocolate and pet stains! Hope it works! Let me no!

the enzyme-based cleaners that help break down the smelly components are another must-have (pet stores sell one called "Nature's Miracle" - target used to carry a less expensive brand called "Kids'n'Pets")

I was a big chicken when it came to accident clean up so we would have "diaperless" time in the kitchen (with its grimy 20+-year-old vinyl flooring) after dinner with the potties close by - kids in early stages of potty training seem to be better able to recognize when they need to sit on the potty when they're "au naturel". And with warmer weather coming up, many parents will have "bare babies in the backyard" potty training sessions b/c you can just hose off any accidents.

I go to the pet stores, and use the enzyme stuff to get it out of the carpet. Even though it is for pet urine, it worked fantastic. Soak the sopt up with a clean towel. Then apply the enzyme cleaner. dab up excess ,and let dry. Good luck with training.
