Bleach is all you need. You can dilute it down or use full streghth. Open up a window to air out once you have applied it. Oh, and remember to use old clothes as it gets everywhere and everything you have on will have little white dot's on it. And never combine using bleach with any ammonia product. It produces a toxic vapor that can kill you.
I clean my bathroom every morning just to avoid the midew and mold build up on the tiles. I spray the shower/tub down with Clorox Clean-up. I haven't had any mold or mildew building up since using it. I live in a very old house and am a pro fighting against mold and mildew.
try using baking soda and a tooth brush to scrub
D.
I use Tilex mold and mildew for my bathroom. Spray it and walk away. Come back 10 minutes later and clean. I do the same with Clorox. Both work. Let it soak in first, so you do have to wait a few minutes. I spray the shower first, then clean the rest of the bathroom, then clean the shower.
i had this issue in our old bathroom... no ventilation and the shower was like a phone booth. i started using diluted bleach (1/4 bleach to 3/4 water) and sprayed it on there about once a week... and i opened the window to air it out. It worked like a charm! i didn't even have to scrub or anything! good luck!
baking soda and chlorine bleach mixed as a paste and apply, let dry and rinse. ventilate area. nice to have "damprid" hanging in bathroom, can get it at bed bath and beyond. it absorbs moisture.
i had to ask my husband about this one...he's a contractor, and does many bathrooms. he said that just for the normal person (like you and me) bleach works really well. he also told me to let you know that IF you don't mind taking some time, you can go to home depot, they have a grout "eraser" you just rub it up and down on the grout, and it takes the top layer (thin) of grout off. all the black mold will come off the tiles. but you have to put some effort into it (i know unless i had someone to take my daughter for a few hrs, i just wouldn't have the time for it). but IF it doesn't come out w/ the grout eraser, it means that it's soaked through the grout, and you would have to have all the grout removed and replaced new. if you're not a "handy" person that has done, or could do something like that, you would need a handy-man or someone like that. my husband said to definitely try the grout eraser if you don't mind taking that time out, or just do the bleach. but if you wanted someone to come in and replace the grout (especially if it was needed), and you were w/in reasonable driving distance...he said that he could come and do it for you if you wanted...he also said that if it was just the basic tub area that's tiled, he would only charge $75 (it would be a little more for a bathroom that has more then just the tub area tiled). if you have mold growing anywhere else in the bathroom, where it's painted, then put a stain on it...rid-ex (i think that's how it's spelled) it's also in home depot. you just bleach the area, and get as much of the mold off as you can, then once it's almost dried (it'll say on the bottle/can) you just either paint or spray it on that part of the wall that had the mold, and it's supposed to prevent mold from coming back. we also live in a basement, and i was given 2 buckets (about the size of a coffee can) of damn rid. all you do is pour the sand/cat litter like stuff into the top of the container, and every couple days check it, if there's any water in it, dumb it (not the sand). this is also found in home depot. it works great, only thing is if you forget about it, and it starts to fill with water (it can overflow if left for months) it tends to have a really bad mold stink...just remember to dump it at least once a week if there's alot of moisture down there, and you should be good. if you have anymore questions, you can always email me. good luck, i hope i was of some help!
Dehumidifier and straight white vinegar. It kills mold and kills odors once it's dried.
I've had no luck with CLR, Simple Green, Fantastic, or softscrub either. Clorox makes a gel bleach pen with a scrubber on the end that I am trying next.
Hi Poeta
Get some Bam!! it's amazing..
N.
Straight vinegar---Put it in a spray bottle & spray it on let it sit awhile--(It's gonna smell but....) If not have u tried X14 that works
Definately the Tilex Mildew. Works without any scrubbing too!
I would say bleach of course, but when I moved into my new place the bathroom was grotesque and there was a big mildew problem, I used BAM easy off for bathrooms, it worked wonders! Good luck!
i used straight bleach and a toothbrush on my bathroom tiles.
Dear Poeta,
Firstly, what a beautiful name! I have always used Tilex-Mold & Mildew Remover. It will take a few trys but it does work and let it sit for a little while. Or you can go the cheap route and put plain bleach in a spray bottle and spray your shower with it. Make sure you don't spray anything chrome because it will eat away at it. Let me know how you made out.

Hi Poeta - the best thing I ever used was Tilex mildew root remover. It's a white spray bottle with a blue label. Hands down the best at cleaning. Good luck!
mr clean magic eraser works on everything. i love it an use it on my bathroom, kitchen an even the walls when my daughter used to draw on them.
Just wanted to post a note about that Mr. Clean Magic Eraser...someone sent me an e-mail just yesterday about how it burned her child. If I can figure out how to do it on here I will post it. I was mortified reading it. Anyway...just figured I'd let you know and maybe either stay away from using it or not let your kids near it. Apparently there is no warning on it at all and this woman allowed her 4 or 5 year old to help clean and it really burned him. so sad. FYI
Good luck mildew fighting! :)
Bleach solution. Dilute some bleach in a spray bottle. Spray it on, let it sit for 10 minutes or so, then scrub it with a brush. Ventilate well!
Jess
well first you need a dehumidifier if you are living in a basement, otherwise you will never get rid of mold and mildew. It will always come back. Try clorox cleanup. Cleans just about everything. Be careful though, dont spray too much, its pretty strong. Or you could try Mr. Clean magic eraser, little pricey but they work like magic, seriously! good luck!
Hi,bleach could be very strong but it works. I sometimes use vinegar if the build up is not much, then I use a wash cloth with baking soda and give it a good wash. That does the trick for me. Hope something work for you.
Good Luck.
I had the same issue...bleach is the ONLY thing that will work. I put some on a q-tip and applied it that way...just depends how much mildew you have I guess...mine was just bits in certain places so a q-tip worked well for the application. Good luck!
I use Tilex Mold and Mildew. Spray it on and let it sit for a couple minutes. That'll typically take care of things. Then you can wipe it down with water and you'll be good to do - with no scrubbing! :>) Good luck!
hi poeta...
i live in a basement too and had the same problem.. i used everything too but the only thing that works for me is straight bleach... i spray it all over the tiles and leave it there for like 10mins then ill scrub it down... good luck....
i use bleach in a spray bottle. spray on, turn on fan, open windows, leave and in 10 min. its gone!! tilex with bleach is good too
i don't know about cheap, but maybe you could find some at a dollar general or something? Try either Tilex Mold&Mildew Remover or Clorox Clean up (You could also use just straight bleach). If it's really bad, you may want to use a couple of applications. My advice is if you can't afford much, just spend the 4 or 5 dollars one time for the Tilex Mold and Mildew (It may not even be that much, I can't remember) and it should definetly work for you. I have a big mold problem in our bathroom also..there's just nowhere for the dampness to go, so it just turns into mildew/mold...i've got to clean it at least once a week with bleach, but the Tilex works excellent also!!
Good luck!
