When Can I Put My DD Directly in Her Stroller?

My DD's 8 mos old, and she is a supported sitter, on the verge of sitting up on her own. While using the stroller, we still put her in her carseat, and put the carseat in the stroller. Now with summer approaching, we get outdoors a lot more, and handling a car-seat and stroller in together is becoming a little cumbersome. I am wondering, if she is already ready to be put in the stroller directly.
Note: Although 8 mos, she fits in her carseat comfortably still. And as for inside the car, we have no plans of removing her rear-facing carseat yet. Its only while using the stroller, that we're thinking of doing away with it.
Moms, can you advice if its ok for us to do it? Will it affect her back?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your responses. We started putting her directly in the stroller about 4-5 weeks back, and she loves it - when she's wide awake and in a happy mood. When she feels sleepy, however, she doesn't want to go to sleep on her own. She asks to be carried. Sometimes, she bawls her lungs out in public places, and so we carry her and put her to sleep (all in about 10 min). However, its a pain to strap her back into the stroller (with the inclination lowered to almost horizontal, of course..) :)
All 3 of us (DD, DH and me) are together mastering the art of going to sleep in the stroller itself, and to strap her back in without waking her up! :)

The carrier is really just for convenience and comfort when they are tiny. At 8 mos, I would think it would be fine to put her right into the stroller. If it reclines, you could put it back a bit, rather than straight up so she doesn't end up leaning forward. Or, you could put some light blankets in to cushion around her if she seem small in there.

Don't worry about her sitting up :). My daughter is a little over 7 mos and she isn't sitting up either but can scoot all over the floor. My first daughter sat up well before this!

As for the stroller, at 6 months we reclined the stroller seat and buckled her in. Just like a highchair. If the straps are snug she is good to go! Most strollers reccomendation is 6 months and up without a carseat.

It's best to wait until she can sit on her own since the straps in a stroller are really not made to hold her up if she slumps over. She'll get there soon...probably over the summer. Encourage her to sit as much as possible. Give her tummy time to strengthen her upper body. Congrats on your little girl, they grow up so fast!

With both of my kids, they were in a firm backed stroller by five months without the car seat. But mine were a little tall, so they were out of the carrier car seats by six months. For us, around six or seven months they were good in am umbrella stroller. You might need to recline the back on the seat, but she should be fine. I would test it out and see if she is comfortable and likes being in it and facing out before going out for a long stroll or anything. If she fusses or cries, she might just like being in the carrier for a little longer.

I find that if it's a seat with a firm back it usually works ok. My soft umbrella stroller doesn't work until they're bigger and stronger.

If she's very small, you can roll up swaddle blankets and put them next to her to hold her up straight.

You should be able to put her in her stroller... I have two strollers one that said I could put my son in it right away and the other (which I bought when he was 5/6 months said for 6 months and up).

I don't know of any stroller that starts after 6 months, but if you are concerned just check the manual for the stroller it should state it right in there.

Why is she not sitting up yet?? Okay my kids were advanced but mine sat up at 4.5 months and crawled at 6 months. But I got on the floor with them every day for a little while and helped them learn to hold themselves up. After that I would hand them toys to play with while they were sitting up and put big pillows in a V shape behind them to provide a soft landing,
I wanted to encourage crawling because it helps their coordination to crawl longer.
That being said she can go in the stroller at birth.
