Ends when they move to middle school in 6th. Before then, we are stuck with this ridiculous holiday.
My oldest is in 4th grade, and I haven't heard from his teacher about whether or not they will be exchanging Valentines.
Fourth grade happen to be the last year for me, as a kid, but that had to do with the school I went to. My school was K-8 with grades 5-8 upstairs, so the school drew a lot of lines between 4th & 5th grade.
If the teacher hasn't said anything yet, would you assume they are not doing anything?
I did email his teacher, who is really not good with emails. Finally, though, he posted something on Bloomz. Wonder if my email triggered that?
He wants the kids to make a mailbox. Wish he had let us know sooner. We have a very busy schedule this weekend.

My elementary kids did valentines. So i have a 5th grader who scoffed and didn't care at all about his cards and a Kindergartener who was THRILLED to be filling out her cards.
Once they hit middle school and high school then valentine parties are no more!
My kids do it all through 6th grade (all through elementary). Middle school starts in 7th grade here and my son isn't exchanging valentines this year. He might bring in a lollypop or candy for his 3 best friends an pass it to them in the hall. You should shoot your teacher an email and ask.
I wish the teachers and parents would just put their foot down about this whole Valentine's thing. Especially once they reach this age. Honestly, by the time you are 12, you don't want to make a valentine's box. Phenomenal waste of classroom time, teacher resources, and parent money. By 4th grade, there are cliques, some kids are being excluded, hormones are starting to rear their heads and, let's be honest, some kids just aren't very nice. This is just baiting trouble.
Sorry - rant over. And I'm sorry that you have to waste time this weekend working on something so senseless and last minute. Good luck.
I understand feeling frustrated by last-minute stuff, but doesn't "make a mailbox" just mean "decorate a paper bag"? Don't *allow* it to take too much of your time! And buy a box of simple cards, write the kids' names on them. Done!
My kid got Valentines up until middle school, but our middle school started in 6th grade.
It ended when my kids were out of elementary school. So 4th grade was the last year for my youngest.
They did class Valentines in elementary school, which is K-6 here. So it stopped with grade 7.
My oldest is in 4th grade and they are exchanging valentines this year. His school is K-6.
They did in fourth grade - although it started tapering off around fifth and sixth grade. Not everyone did.
They did it all through elementary school and didn't do that anymore in middle school.
Sixth for my son.. so 5th grade was the last year he brought any.. although he just liked bringing something to share with his class, not sure if his teacher did anything..
My kids did it until the end of elementary school.
Most likely they aren't but I would have some ready to go just in case.
My older two are in middle school. My 8th grade girl uses her own money to buy a few friends something small (like in the $20 range TOTAL). My 6th grade son used his own $2 to buy a girl he likes a rose from the fundraiser they did at school. My 4th grader is still doing Valentine's. He will do them next year as well.
In our house, we haven't let it be an option until they are out of elementary school (5th grade). The classes do them...so we send them in.
I'd really ask the kiddo what they're doing for Valentine's Day. Our schools go pre-K through 5th grade, middle school is 6, 7, and 8, then high school is 9, 10, 11, and 12.
Ours stopped passing out Valentine's after 5th grade but they did have Valentine's Day dances in 4th and 5th.
