How long before your baby was born did you feel the "nesting" urge? Also, what was your nesting urge? Organizing, cleaning everything, etc?

What can I do next?

Reading these answers makes me smile -- and realize how very wacked I was with my pregnancies! At home, no nesting ever kicked in. At work, however, about a week before I delivered each of my children I became ultra-focused on straightening things up (definitely NOT me), organizing, tying up loose ends, documenting everything -- even washing my desk, bookcases, etc. Very weird. At home? Nothing. Nada. Ever. Everything remained haphazard and -- shall we be kind? -- casual.

I'm 22 weeks and we just move to a two bedroom apartment. I think I started nesting once we moved. I have this strange obsession lately to keep at least the kitchen clean and pick things up off the floor. My apartment is no where near perfectly clean, but even my boyfriend noticed that I'm cleaning a lot more. I think once I start getting baby things for the second room, it will become worse cause I'm gonna start "nesting" in there.

I had morning sickness the entire pregnancy even while in labor..
But I had a lot of energy and then I would just crash.

But at about 7 months I decided I needed to redo the front garden..

I purchase 6 DOZEN flowering plants and planted them in one afternoon. I could not stop until every one of them was planted.. My neighbor came home for lunch, left and when she came home that evening, she was astounded that every flower had been planted, the garden totally rearranged.. I felt great.. til the next morning, I was so tired.. But it was like a force that could not be stopped while in the middle of all of it.. Totally had gone into a nesting mode..

For my first child I don't think I really got the nesting urge, but then again we moved close to the due date so I think I just felt overwhelmed and tried to relax and ignore it as much as possible. But this time around (16wks) for some reason i have the urge and motivation to clean out my son's closet and drawers, random drawers throughout the house (the junk drawers) and work on the lawn a lot. Not sure if that is really nesting, but those things are definitely not me.

Well...I was about 71/2 months pregnant and it was weird as heck. I was expecting twins so I had twice as much to do..but I just suddenly became obsessed with making everything just so. I washed every single item of baby clothes, blankets...anything that was washable was washed with dreft...and I mean...I was getting toddler outfits at my baby shower (their closet smelled really good though!)...I labeled each draw on their dresser with whose clothes it was, what it was, and meticulously folded everything. And this was over like a 2-3 week period..it didn't just go away after a bit :)
I would also organize all random baby stuff I had, the toys the diapers...everything. I got teased so much by my family but it didn't matter!...The way I felt was that they needed clean clothes folded perfectly and their entire room organized.

With my first, I felt the need to get on my hands and knees and hand clean the carpet about a week before he was born. Then I organized all his clothes. With the second, it was moving things around in the nursery about a month before. With the third, I had to have the hall way flooring replaced. My water broke in the line at the home improvement store! I was so busy with the last one, I don't recall nesting at all!!

I never felt it! I wanted to, but both of my pregnancies made me feel horrible the entire time. I've never felt tiredness like that, and it wouldn't let up! However, almost immediately after giving birth, I went into "superwoman" mode and accomplished quite a bit in a very short time that had been let go during the pregnancies.

With my first child, I was due in December and all summer my "nesting" came out in the form of obsessing over my flower beds. We rent, so I really didn't have to have amazing flower beds, but I was a bit crazed. My husband kept telling me "aren't you supposed to keep the house clean? I thought you were supposed to go crazy inside?" :)

I wish I had--my house is still a wreck, but that one summer I had lovely beds. Now I'm lucky to pull the weeds every few weeks with the kids outside.

I think during my second pregnancy (but maybe my first) I went nuts and cleared out the basement and cleaned it thoroughly.

I think it started at like 7 months. I was a psycho with my first one. Made my husband rip up the carpet and lay new flooring. With my second I was pretty lazy until the end, then I was just a clean freak!! Had to have everything ready! Im only 8 weeks now, im so sick and my house is sooo messy! I cannot wait to nest!

With my first it was the day before labor that it hit the hardest (with spurts throughout pregnancy). The day before though I woke up at midnight and cleaned all night long. Pregnant and due again in two months and haven't experienced as much as before so I'm eager to see how this one works. :o)

I didn't! At the beginning of my pregnancies I seem to get a burst of energy right after my period is due, before any other symptoms kick in. That's it. I spurts of energy throughout, but really no nesting and certainly not at the end!

Just recently, I am 15wks. I rearranged the basement furniture (and I'm amazed at how much stronger I am when preggo), I organized the kids' closets, and I have a very strong urge to redecorate a room. I'd love to start on the baby's room, but can't until we build my step-daughter a new room... so I'm stuck with drawings and googling for now! :)

Wow--can't believe how different it is for everyone. For my first, it didn't kick in until somewhere around 8 months, but with my second it started closer to 7 months. I don't know if it's because fall is coming on or because I feel farther along than I did with my first baby, but I'm feeling anxious to get everything set up for some time. That doesn't stop me from running out of steam and collapsing somewhere between 1-3pm every day, though...

I don't really get it, but my husband does. He repaints everything and puts together elaborate "to do" lists. Last weekend it was destroying the bathroom to put in a fan!, this weekend taking down doors and sawing the tops off so they close easier (and WD-40 to the hinges...of course), he's cleaned the garage so the carseat can come out of the car easier, and rearranged our recycling center. Both times I've been pregnant I had to work a ton to get caught up before I went on leave so I definitely appreciate his nesting instinct, but there are moments where I just look at him like he's losing it! Our second baby is due in 10 days and I've been informed that tomorrow we're organizing the basement--what fun :)!

I can't remember when it really started, but I went crazy with buying things for the house like toilet paper and stuff. It was as if I was never going to leave the house again and I was building a bomb shelter! I bought mac and cheese, paper towels, fruit snacks, diapers...all those "essentials" my husband and daughter might need need while I was doing something with the baby!

I also did a lot of cleaning and throwing out and giving to goodwill!

My nesting started around 30 weeks or so with this pregnancy. For me, it's all about organizing. My kids' toys could be ALL over the livingroom, but if their books aren't arranged accoring to height it just BUGS me till I fix it. I've gone through organizing all my girls' clothes, shoes, toys, books, hair accessories (!); my desk, the pantry - really the list goes on. I know these aren't rational things to be wasting my energy on, but I just can't help it. Oh, and also, my sink has to be shiny ALL the time....weird, eh? lol

At 41 wks I went to the doctor and nothing was happening as far as getting my son to move out of my uterus. They scheduled the induction for 41.5wks to avoid memorial day weekend. The induction was schedule for Thursday morning, Wednesday night I decided to rearrange my bedroom and closets so I had the stuff for the baby just right (or the stuff that was in my my room). Then I went and helped a friend pack her house. I don't know if I never got nesting because my body wasn't starting the labor process (since 27hrs into labor I still didn't have a baby). Maybe that was nesting, maybe not.

Good luck

I didn't really have a nesting urge with my first. I panicked that we didn't have the nursery set up yet, but that was about a week before she was born. :) I knew I needed to do all those last minute prepping things like freeze meals and pack my hospital bag, but I never really did. With my second, we moved when I was 7 months pregnant, so I don't know that I would call it nesting so much as wanting to get everything unpacked and organized since I knew I'd be out of commission after the baby was born. And again, I never really froze meals. Packed my bag after my water broke. Not that I recommend that since there's a risk that labor can go a lot faster than you expect. :)
