i POTTY TRAINED MY OLDEST DAUGHTER WHEN SHE WAS 11 MONTHS OLD, i SAT A POTTY IN FRONT OF THE TV AND LET HER SIT ON IT AND EVERYTIME SHE WENT IN THE POTTY i WOULD GIVE HER A TREAT.
MY BOYS I POTTY TRAINED WHEN THEY WERE 1 1/2 , I WOULD PUT CHEERIOS IN THE POTTY AND PLAY SINK THE CHEERIOS, OR DAWN DISH LIQUID AND LET THEM MAKE BUBBLES , IT WAS LIKE A GAME AND THEY CAUGHT ON IN NO TIME. BUT REMEMBER TO BE PATIENT EACH KID IS DIFFERENT AND THEY KNOW WHEN THEY ARE READY. SOME KIDS ARE MORE ADVANCED THAN OTHERS. MY YOUNGEST TWO DAUGHTERS WERE NOT POTTY TRAINED UNTIL 2 AND 2 1/2. JUST BE CONSISTANT WITH HIM.
AND LIMIT DRINKS BEFORE BEDTIME.
ME PERSONALLY I NEVER BELEAVED IN PUTTING ON PULL UPS. IT IS ALL REALY TRIAL AND ERROR. I HOPE THIS HELPS

Well I guess my story will be a lot different from all but is normal where i come from... i got 1st potty for my daugther when she was 6 months old... and on and off we have been potty training, but as we have had lot of moving in between then also more confusion that needed... now she is 16m and during day, while she is awake i have her mostly in regular underwear... she has accidents, but also holds her pee for like 3-4hrs... cant control the poop so good yet... but when she was about 7 mths old, she would always poop around same time, so i had a whole week, where i had all her poopies in the potty instead of diapers... around 1yr old she had a refuse period... and i left the potty just around.... and now she asks for it... even carries it to me when she wants to go...
my mom said that i was out of diapers by year and half... so kids are different...
with little ones like that is more game and fun... but when older and never heard of potty or introduced to it even, then i think is harder... human is a slave of habits after all... :)))
so i think you can introduce as early as you want, but take it easy and dont expect too much too soon... and never get mad at child over accidents... they just happen and so i say to my girl too... and she tries not to have them, but she cant quite yet... and i understand it and for us it all works great :)

R., my son is almost three (in May) and the whole potty training thing is HELL!! I say don't start before your son is ready or shows interest. Otherwise, you are setting yourself up for tons of aggrevation!! Good luck and let the patience be with you:)

My daughter is 4. Although she peed in the potty a two months after her 3rd birthday. She still refuses to poo in the potty. My son will be 3 in Jan. he has gone to the potty a couple of times but if he isnt ready I wouldnt push them. We tried pushing with my daughter and she refuses to poo in the potty. My son is taking his time but he has been easier only becuase we still dont push it with him. He will ask to go adn we sit him on the potty. Sometimes he will use it sometimes not.

I bought a little potty for my son when he was about 18 months. He wouldn't use it that often. Then one day when he was almost 3 he just started going to the potty by himself. They will let you know when they are ready. Just encourge him.

Well, if your child shows interest at about 1 1/2, then by all means start then. If not, you can initiate it by asking if they want to sit on the potty and go like a big kid. If he hasn't shown interest until about 2 1/2, then I'd start it then. Don't worry too much, all kids are different. By the way, the cherrio to aim at in the potty didn't work for my son, he couldn't care less, but it worked for a friend of mine, so you can try that.

I had the same question. My daughter will be 3 in April. She showed signs of wanting to go potty at 11 months old. WE bought her her own potty, she prefers the big girl potty. She pees fine, but when she gets tired she won't go. She's been having trouble doing number two with or without diapers. I figured it had to do with the potty training and explianed to her that she dosn't have to poop in the potty, lets get the pee pee mastered first. Now she's fine. It just takes time.
Oh, a funny story with the cheerio thing. My friend did that with her son and he reached in and ate a cheerio:)

Good Luck!!

P.S. I have a 6 month old and hope he will be easier

I bought a potty when my son was 1. He was potty trained 1 month after his 3rd birthday. They will do it when they are ready and not before. Remember...they have to PHYSICALLY be able to pull their pants off or tell you that they have to go and be able to hold it long enough for you to get their pants off. It won't hurt to introduce the concept at a young age, get the idea in his head, just keep YOUR expectations realistic.

Hi, I bought my son a potty/step stool when he was around 1-1 1/2 years old. He sat on it and I explained what it was for but he wasn't interested. We also bought him one of those seats that sit on the potty because we thought he might like that instead. He really wasn't interested. One month before his 3rd birthday my son told me he wanted to wear his big boy Elmo underwear and we never went back to diapers. They let you know when they are ready but it doesn't hurt to encourage them. He did end up using the potty seat that sits on the toilet and he used the other potty as a step stool to get to the toilet. Sometimes he wanted to go back to diapers and sometimes he had plenty of accidents but I told him once the diapers were off that was it and I stuck to it. I don't believe in Pullups because I think they just confuse a child. But some people have had luck with them. I think if you start too early it takes longer to train them. My son took about a week or two to potty train. You will definitely need lots of patience. Good luck to you.
