When is it time to get rid of the swing??

my dd is 8 months only about 16 pounds but she is sitting up really well &
crawling all over the place, not 2 mention pulling up on anything she can. We
only use it for about 30 minutes a day (mornings usually) enough time to get big
brother some breakfast & mommy a cup of coffee.

when did you stop using your swing??

What can I do next?

I would stop using it when she either outgrows the weight limits (don't want it breaking on her!) OR when she is able to get herself out of it (don't want her falling out).

Other than that, I wouldn't worry about getting rid of it if she enjoys it. Unless it's just a pain in the (you know what) to keep it out, or it takes up a beastly amount of space.

If you are just using it as a safe place to keep her while you are trying to get other stuff done... maybe you could switch it out for an exersaucer or jumper play-thing.... or one of those baby 'corrals'. I bet you could sell it on craigslist, and find a new toy fairly cheap. :)

We just gave our swing away. My son was sitting well and kept trying to sit up in the swing instead of just relax there.

We now use two other handy devices.

-One is a secondhand stationary exersaucer. If you just need a safe place to put DD for a few minutes while you do dishes or get your coffee I highly recommend this miracle invention! We keep ours in the kitchen.

-The other is- our highchair. You can put a few toys right on the tray and it's great practice for hanging out with the family during mealtimes.

We seemed to gradually end up not using it at all during the day. I would keep using it until you find yourself in the same spot. It'll happen naturally:-)

I believe my little one was out of her swing at around 8-9 months because she was soo interested in her walker exersaucer thing lol. I would get rid of it when she's too big for it or completely loses interest. Even though you only use it in the morning, it sounds like it gives you some much needed time to get big bro breakfast and you some coffee :) You could try one of the exersaucer things and see if she prefers that while your doing your morning routine.

These are what I'm talking about, apparently they are called activity walkers lol

we just buckled them in so that they wouldn't fall out but kept the swings until at least 12 months. We moved into the stationary jumpers... those are GREAT! Really wears them out :)

we have the travel kind that sits low to the ground. I have found my 20 month old sitting in it looking at books! She's little too - a little over 17 lbs. I don't turn it on for her but she likes just relaxing in it. so I figure why not?

I stopped when my boys fussed about being in it, don't remember exactly when that was, but if he is happy in there, go for it!

I stopped using our swing when my boys grabbed the side bars and stopped the swing. They were about 6 months old. They were big boys. Well over 16# by then. Use is as long as you can if it provided you peace to deal with DS!

I stopped using it when he was 6 months. He was getting to heavy for it, so it barely moved anymore! Lol. Plus he started crawling, so he was more interested in other things by this time.

Stop using the swing when she hates being in it. If she's happy swinging and it gives you time to attend to other things, then it is a good thing! What works for you and her is what is important, not some arbitrary timeline. The swing saved me many times when kids were babies. I had the kind that had a flat basket we used for naps when they were tiny, then switched to the seat when they were able to sit.

My DD is very tall for her age and we HAD to stop using her swing at about 4-5 months because she was literally hanging out of it and hitting her feet on the metal bar at the bottom everytime she would lift her foot. I say if you have an activity table/bouncer use that instead. Im sure at 8 months she would be much happier in that anyway
Good Luck

our kids out weighed the thing before they were too old. friends (even those that own daycares) said they used theres for the first year. if she is happy and isnt in danger i think its great she can still enjoy it.
