I have read so many different things about introducing solid foods I just don’t know when to start. My son is 14 weeks old and I have read anywhere from 4 months to 6 months. He is showing great interest in me drinking from cups and eating from a plate with a fork and is always grabbing for those things. I have rice cereal in the cupboard and I am anxious to start I just don’t want to do it too early. What are the success stories, or the best doctor advice you have had.

What can I do next?

I gave my son rice cereal at about 2 1/2 months.....and he didn't like it. So I waited until he was about 3 months or so and started giving him baby food from a spoon and he loved it! All of them! Start with a veggie, not a fruit..... Good luck!

I started introducing solids at 4 months. Just do what you feel is right for you and your child. You say he acts like he wants it, so try. If he isn't into eating it you just wait awhile before trying again. Mine was definitely loving cereal by 4 months and so far he is as healthy as can be.

my son started cereal at 5 months. his pediatrician was going to start him at 4 months but he was gaining weight so fast that she decided to hold him off. She said that if you start baby's on solids too soon that they are more likely to develope allergies. I was very anxious to start him on food too so at 5 mos. i started him on my own. he hated it!! every feeding was a battle. I would wait until 4 months to feed baby cereal just to be safe!

Hello, I am a mother of 3 and one on the way. My first daughter had alot of medical problems so from the first days of life she had rice cereal ( about 1 teas.) in her bottle, but I didn't start feeding from a bowl ( rice cereal, and jar foods) until they could sit up well, and hold their head up. Even then I would feed them a little bit of sweet potatoes and things like that only once a day. If the baby spits up the food alot stop feeding them it and wait awhile longer. Good luck and most of all enjoy him.
