I'm 18 weeks along and this is my 2nd baby so I thought I'd feel more by now. I do feel little pops here and there and once I felt a little hamster feeling but not too much since then. The baby is growing fine and I've gone to every check-up and everything is perfect. I know I'm being totally impatient and I know that I'm heavier w/this pregnancy than with my daughter but c'mon little baby let me know you're in there. When did you start feeling consistant movements?

What can I do next?

Personally (and I was 340 pounds when I got pregnant) I think size having anything to do with YOU feeling the baby move is a MYTH. But there are a TON of factors that DO impact when/if you feel movement. Your position, the baby's position and the placenta's position are the most obvious. I could feel him at 14 weeks, but ONLY if I was either on my stomach or on my hands and knees. And then there's personality-- if you're giving birth to a Kung-fu master you're going to feel it earleir and more often than if you have a world class couch potato. And then there's timing-- does the baby move when you're awake and paying attention, or does the little bugger wait until you're to busy or to sound asleep to notice?

And obviously the larger you are the longer it'll take for anyone ELSE to feel movement THROUGH all that insulation....although at 9 months it can be VERY startling when the baby decides to make your entire supersized belly shake--FREAKED out my sister's dog --from across the room!

I wonder if she has an anterior placenta? I found out that with this baby my placenta is up front right where you usually see the baby move etc. It's not a problem but it does cause you to feel the baby later and sometimes people don't see the big belly moves. Now that I am 30 weeks I feel him all the time and my belly 'jumps' alot :D But I didn't really feel him move much at all before 20 weeks. It was at the 20 wk ultrasound I was told about my placenta. I am overweight but I feel him all the time now, so it really may be the placenta, I would tell her to ask at her next ultrasound :D

I can't really answer this question myself, but was just talking about this with my friend the other day. She is a heavy girl and was so when she got pregnant with her little girl. I know she said she had the same issues you are, she was always worried there was something wrong because she never felt her baby moving around or kicking or what not, nor did she get to see her belly move with the baby's feet. She said she always go and call the doctor with panic. Though just thinking about it, if you worry about the baby, maybe you could get one of those things that checks for the heartbeat. I know they got ones you can have at home. Just a thought, not sure if it would work or not, but jut kind of came to mind. Wish you luck. :)

when I was preggo with my twins I felt one move way more than the other. but when I would go in for my ultrasounds and then for all the non stress tests every week the baby i rarely felt move was constantly movin and shakin, and when they would do the NST he never sat still and it would take them forever to get his heartbeat, and I would rarely feel any of it. His placenta was in the front and around the side so it shielded his movements most of the time. but, he is the one I felt when he was trying to kick his way out of my vagina...LOL, at least that is how it felt. Maybe you little one is just positioned differently or your placenta is blocking some of the movements.

I was heavier with both my boys and it was hard to feel them move on the outside but if you pay close attention at times you will feel them move. It is more like gas bubbles moving around then making your whole stomach move. My husband wasn't able to really feel the baby move until almost 7 months along when they were stronger and my stomach was stretched more.

I honestly never felt kicking and real movement. I felt pressure on the bladder at 3 months.

I remember not feeling much movement until almost 23-25 weeks with both my kids. I remember it was much more difficult to feel my son move (my second child) because of the placement of the placenta, it was in the front instead of on top. It didn't cause any issues, but I didn't feel as many dramatic kicks and punches like I did with my daughter. At 18 weeks, you probably won't feel the massive jabs like you will in a few weeks. If you are feeling the flutters and movements then that is great!

My doctor gave me a tip so I could feel my baby move. She would not move much. He told me to go to a quiet room with a tall glass of o-jay or any sweet juice. And sit there resting and drink the juice and you should feel baby move.

With my first I felt movement around 16 weeks, but with my second it wasn't until closer to 20 weeks... he was totally healthy, and after I started feeling movement - whoa baby! He moved like crazy! Everyone says the second baby you feel earlier, but that wasn't true in my case.

Congrats on the new LO! I didn't feel my first (and only) until I was about 21-22 wks along. At the 20 wk ultrasound I found out that the placenta was in the front, so it was going to be more difficult to feel her. But once she got moving, there was NO stopping her. Just be patient. ;-)

I'm 20 weeks and don't feel a lot of movement yet. Some but it's sporatic. They were asking me at my 16 week check up if I felt it yet and I really hadn't. She said when you're lying down, giggle your uterus and maybe you'll probably feel a response. I did and really didn't feel anything.
It's crazy because this is my 4th pregnancy. It was probably around 20 weeks with the first but 17 weeks with the last 2. Every pregnacy is different! They do say that you feel movement earlier after your first but it's probably because you know what to expect..........
At 18 weeks the baby only weighs 8-9 ounces which is a half a pound! It's only 5 and a half inches. By 26 weeks, the baby is 13 inches. So as baby grows in the 20-26 weeks, you'll feel more consistant movements!
