Hi everyone! I'm totally ignorant about private schools and need help on this. When do people generally start looking into private schools? Is there such competition to get into some of these schools that you need to start looking early? Our son is not even 2 yet, so obviously we have a ways to go! But we're already thinking about it and don't want to wait until it's too late. And along these lines, any recommendations for good ones in the Collegeville area? Thank you!!

What can I do next?

I'm not sure if you'd be interested, but my neighbor is an education consultant who helps families match up schools w/ their own values, budget, likes/dislikes, etc. I have no idea how much she charges for her services, but if you are interested, you could e-mail her at ____@____.com. I think she also has a website if you google barton education consulting? She's located in West Chester. Good luck!

HI J.!
L. here from Collegeville. We started looking for schools for Brianna when she was 6m. We checked out, after a LOT of research, 4 schools, and she will start when she is 2.5. We will send her to the Valley Forge Kinder House (Montessori) in Limerick. Feel free to e me directly, and I can give you my phone # so we can discuss more extensively. J.,
if you think you're interested in private schools, you'll want to start looking around about now. I'd just get an idea of what's around and the places that you believe might be good for your family. Talk to people who have looked at private schools too, as they can provide a wealth of information. Do you want your son to go to preschool at the private school as well? Many do have 3 and 4 year old programs, so that's something to think about. Anyway, there's quite an application process and you'll need to get started on that late fall of the year before he'll attend. Usually the application deadlines are around the end of January. Most schools do have rolling admissions, but it's better to be one of the first to apply.

It's great that you're thinking of this so early. We are just now applying for my 5 year old for next fall. We didn't think we'd be interested in private schools, but he's been in public kindergarten and after this year we really want to get him into a private school. So we're late in the process but hopeful that he'll get in.
Good luck!
K.

Hi J. H,

Hello midwesterner! I am originally from Indiana. I've been in the Philly area for over 10 yrs now, Collegeville for almost 4 of those years.

Are you talking about private schools for pre-school or elementary through high school? Which school district are you in? The schools in this area are excellent.

I have 2 children in public school (Methacton School District) with one getting ready for high school. The options at the high school are tremendous!
