What is the appropriate age to begin feeding raw veggies? My little guy is 16 months and is only lacking his 2 yr molars. It seems like 16 months may still be a little young...I can't remember. What are good 1st raw veggies to start with?

What can I do next?

As far as being able to digest them, he can have them anytime now. As far as choking hazards go, you will need to cut them very small. My son is 2 and I still don't give him whole carrots, large pieces of broccoli, or anything hard like that. I cut up everything that is round like grapes or tomatoes. The size is the main thing. I still cut all his food, and don't really know when I will stop. I guess I will just see when he stops overstuffing his mouth, and even then, I will probably still cut grapes and carrots and hot dogs and such til he's, oh, I don't know, 15? :)

depends on each child. just try them and see what happens. sometimes takes awhile to get used to the new textures and stuff so just keep introducing them. My 27 month old won't eat raw veggies but he still trys a bite or two when his sister has them.

My 19 month old will eat raw carrots , I buy the baby carrots that are already peeled or I slice regular carrots really thinly , she will also give peppers a go but she doesn't seem that impressed with them to be honest!....cuccumber is a good one , they are quite soft and nice dipped in hummus

At this age as well, you need to watch out for choking.
Soft and gummy foods, and hard foods are choking hazards, too.

Hard raw veggies, should be cut up small. The size of a pea. Even grapes, should be cut in half.

It makes no difference how many teeth they have... a child can still choke.
My son is 3... and he recently choked on popcorn. Even though he is adept at eating per his age and has all his teeth.
Always supervise when a child is eating... or feeding self finger foods.

I say this because, when I was a TEENager, I choked on a hard bit of food. I even was not able to breathe for like what seemed eternity. It was lodged in my throat. With the absolute last breath of air I had in my lungs, I expelled it. There was no one around me who could help or see me choking. And... what I learned is: when a person is choking, you CANNOT call for help because you are choking or suffocating. It is a "silent" accident.

Not to worry you... but I would not rush raw veggies, unless he is able to chew well and not put too much in his mouth at one time. Which at this age, many kids DO stuff their mouths with too much.
If anything, just cook the veggies first, until a little soft.

All the best,
Susan
