At this age as well, you need to watch out for choking.
Soft and gummy foods, and hard foods are choking hazards, too.
Hard raw veggies, should be cut up small. The size of a pea. Even grapes, should be cut in half.
It makes no difference how many teeth they have... a child can still choke.
My son is 3... and he recently choked on popcorn. Even though he is adept at eating per his age and has all his teeth.
Always supervise when a child is eating... or feeding self finger foods.
I say this because, when I was a TEENager, I choked on a hard bit of food. I even was not able to breathe for like what seemed eternity. It was lodged in my throat. With the absolute last breath of air I had in my lungs, I expelled it. There was no one around me who could help or see me choking. And... what I learned is: when a person is choking, you CANNOT call for help because you are choking or suffocating. It is a "silent" accident.
Not to worry you... but I would not rush raw veggies, unless he is able to chew well and not put too much in his mouth at one time. Which at this age, many kids DO stuff their mouths with too much.
If anything, just cook the veggies first, until a little soft.
All the best,
Susan
