When to Stop Baby Cereal

How long do I continue to give my 1 year old baby cereal/oatmeal? He likes it, and currently I give him 1/4C every morning mixed with Mott's for Kids along with his fruit, dry cheerios, etc.

He's almost 14 months, still nurses a little bit when he wakes and just before bed. Otherwise he's completely on table food.

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies. I suppose you're right - if he's happy, why mess with a good thing. :) It's good for him, and he likes it!

My son is also 14 months, and I give him regular oatmeal now. No more baby anything for us. He eats what we eat. You can keep them on baby cereal/oatmeal as long as you want, but if you are worried about the vitamins, I wouldn't worry about it, if he is getting an adequate amount of fruits, veggies, grains etc. he is getting his vitamins. I had the same concerns as you.

J.,
My baby is almost 2 & stills eats baby cereal, I buy the organic kind & mix with fruit. He has always been a picky eater! He eats some table food, snacks etc but he still wants his baby food & baby cereal, so I will continue to feed it to him until he wants something different. He's 35 lbs so he isnt missing anything by being picky :)
I would just suggest go with what your baby wants. I have other children & they never ate baby food & baby cereal this long, but this baby has his own taste & desires for the food he wants.....so with that said, I can sum it up by saying, "His wish is my command" :)

I fed it to my son until he was about 2 1/2. I only stopped because he started to refuse it. Its healthy and as long as your son likes it, go ahead and feed it to him.

If he likes it and you are happy to give it to him, there is no problem. You could try him on regular oatmeal and see if he likes the consistency of that if you are really concerned.

I say give it to him until he doesn't want it anymore. Babies really start changing as they go on into the toddler years. One day you will wake up and he will not want one bite of it as if it is the worst thing ever and you will think, wow he used to love this stuff! So I say give it until his tastes for it leaves. If by some crazy coincidence he never stops liking it you can just change to soft oatmeal when he like 16 mo or so.
