I still have mine on and my daughter is 2. I JUST had a friend who's daughter got her legs stuck in the slats. She tried vaseline and she could NOT get her legs out. She ended up having to call 911 and have them come. They weren't able to get them out, so they ended up having to saw the crib apart!!

My son jsut had his six-month appointment and his pediatrician said to take it out now, because he's active now and wills tart to use it to climb.

For my son I took them out when he started rolling over but for my daughter I took them out when she was around 10-11 months old. She would use it to snuggle with. She would throw her arm and leg over it and sleep all night so why take something like that away when it helped her sleep. I wasn't worried about it because my daughters didn't tie at the bottom half of the bumper so if her head was under the bumper she was able to get it out with no problem.

I took them out when my kids started rolling over so they wouldn't get wrapped up in them. But make sure they are out before your son starts pulling up to a stand because he could use the bumpers to push himself up higher and possibly fall out of the crib.

Good luck and enjoy your wonderful son.

i didnt take mine out till she was 2. It protected her from going thru the slots with her arms and legs. She didnt use them to climb out of the crib. She is the kind of child that rolls around during the nite. The bumpers helped to protect her from hitting the rails in her sleep. (which is a blessing).

I bet that you are going to get a several different answers to this question. I have a friend who never used them claiming that re-cycled air was to blame for SIDS and I have another friend who took them out when her kids rolled over. I took mine out when my daughter attempted to use it as a launch pad for jumping out of her crib at about 18 months.

I never was worried that it would cause suffocation or anything like that because mine was fairly thin, upright and very secure to the rails (it wasn't the really plush kind).

Good luck!
