When You Get Your Period Back While Breastfeeding / Possibly Pregnant Again?

I had my 3rd child 8 months ago. I got my first period after having him, while breastfeeding, almost 2 months ago. My second period was right on schedule, starting on the 11th of Sept. Now, last week, my hubby and I had intercourse, and, it was not protected. Not planning a child, but, not not planning. I'm pretty sure I would have been ovulating. Now, I had some red, almost brown, hardly any, spotting two nights ago, and, a little yesterday. Have not seen really any today yet. I never had implantation bleeding with the other kiddos, but, could this possibly be implantation bleeding? Or, is my body just maybe adjusting to getting back in the swing of having periods while still nursing? My next cycle should not start until next Friday.

Anyone with similar experiences?

So What Happened?

Update 10-3-09
Thanks everyone. I'm just gonna wait and see. Had a little bit more spotting yesterday. I have had some nausea, but, we've had a little tummy issues around our house. I think it would be too soon for that symptom anyway. I think the spotting is probably caused from my body still adjusting to getting back in cycle, and, I read some more on the Internet, and, it said that as long as I continue to breastfeed, I could get a cycle, then, it could go away for a few months again. My nipples are more sore and sensitive than normal, but, that could be my body getting ready for a cycle, according to what I read. It is too soon to test right now, as, I would not even be expecting a cycle until the 9th. So, I guess if next weekend comes & goes with no cycle, I might go ahead and take a test.

Thanks again.

It could be, but not necessarily. While I breastfed my periods were not regular at all and I had spotting like that off and on. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are having other symptoms but you can always take a pregnancy test.

Take a test to find out? If so, many blessings to you!

i was under the impression once you got your period all doors are open to becoming pregnant. but they could still be messed up from the pregnancy/breast feeding. take a test in a week or so just to make sure.

Yes you can. You need to take preccautions if you don't want to get pregnant again while breast feeding.

I was lucky, I didn't get my period back until after my daughter was a year old--thought I had one day of spotting when she was about 4 months old. However, it was several months before I felt like it was normal...even a year and a half later, I feel like it is a little weird. Including some months that there was just a day or two of spotting.

Certainly, you COULD be pregnant, but it is really just too early to tell. Take a pregnancy test a few days after you expect your period. Anything earlier won't be conclusive. I hope you get the answer you want.

I've been nursing my son for a little over six months now and I've had a period since a week after the post partum stuff stopped. It hasn't been 'regular' once; sometimes it is extremely light and sometimes it's extremely heavy. I can't tell you the number of HPTs we've taken. When I did my well woman appointment in early September I asked my doctor about it and she told me that so long as I'm nursing it most likely won't be regular and to not stress over it too much. I'd say wait until you're a few days late then take a test if you'd like to.

After I got my period back after having my 2nd child I was spotting during ovulation for a few months. I never had before and it has since stopped, but that may be what you're experiencing. No way to tell really except wait and see.
Good luck!

Yep, could be implantation spotting. I only remember it with one of ours, but taking a test should solve the dilemma. Blessings to you!

So you had sex about 2 weeks before your period was due, which is commonly when women ovulate. Yes, you could be pregnant. I also had the spotting (no implantation bleeding with previous 5 pregnancies) and took a very sensitive pregnancy test (from the Dollar Tree) and it was positive.

Then again, as has been said, your body is still adjusting. So it might not be....
