G.T.
I buy all the same type of socks, all white, all the same. Then they get thrown into a drawer not paired up, this way you never know some are missing ;)
Hey ladies!!
I know Im not the only person dealing with this. I buy more socks than anything and I can NEVER find them in the morning. Im not sure if the dryer is eating them, the kids are throwing them out the window, or they are just running away!!!
I've tried keeping them in a mesh bag, I need some new ideas!! I am tired of buying socks.
What do you in your home to keep socks together?
Thanks

After YEARS of the dwindling sock... I finally have a scapegoat. My chocolate lab hooks his bottom fangs on the handle of the dryer, backs up to open the door, climbs in and eats them. Sigh. An average of 2-5 a week. It's highly annoying.
You may note, however i DID say "dwindling". About a decade ago, I decided enough was enough, and only buy one kind of sock. Period. ALL my socks are the same*
Now that I have hubby and kiddo, I buy 3 kinds of socks. That's it. No more "lone troops", or 10 singles. At MOST we only ever have 3 single socks without a mate. Because they all match.
* I buy snowboard socks (that match as well), and my son has soccer socks in addition to his everyday whites. My mum keeps trying to buy "fun" socks for my son, and it annoys me. One is always missing in a few weeks to months. I've asked her REPEATEDLY not to do it, so now, when colored/patterened socks are given to us, I donate them. It's not worth the headache.
Ah yes the dryer eating the socks dilemma! I learned about that with my daughter. I would buy her all different colored socks, ones to match her outfits, etc. Never failed one would get eaten up!
I wised up and just started buying all white socks from Target, same kind, same brand.. Did the same thing with my son. Now the only time I have to buy new socks is when they outgrow them or they get holes in them!
Some are missing sure, but we always have a "twin" =-)
I'm pretty sure there is a crack in the time-space continuium and they get sucked into it and end up in some parallel universe. I'm a little annoyed that I don't get anything from this other universe in return for the socks. Doesn't seem fair.
Well it is always a challenge in our household as well but for us this seems to work thus far. Our girls wash their own clothes so when they put the clean clothes away they will match the socks together if they have a sock that does not match they are asked to take it to the loose sock basket in the laundry room (the basket is so full LOL) and when they happen to come across a match(usually with their cartoon socks) they will put them together other than that the goal it to get the loose sock basket at the end of the month and match the family's socks, when i get around to match day we have a load of socks that are matched and i always do match day before i go out and buy new socks and I tell you I have not done match day consistantly.
Funny I just thought about how i used to keep the socks in a bag and my grandmother used to ask for them so that she can match our socks, she seemed to enjoy doing that. LOL. So i guess i got that from my granny.
Hahaha...can't give you any help, but had to tell you I feel your pain! I just told my hubby last night that we needed to buy my son more socks because I feel like he doesn't have any! (Even though I know we just bought some not that long ago...) Good luck finding a good solution!
i swear my dryer is eating socks because everytime i have socks in the dryer the matching one goes missing even though i know i washed them and they were washed.
Don't know how it happened, but they are at my house. Do you have any of mine ? :)
My kid's socks stick aound pretty well. I do the same thing a lot of others do-buy only one style of sock for the boy and another for the girls. However, your socks may be here as I am ALWAYS finding socks that don't belong. I quiz all the kids that come here "Are these your socks?" and no one ever claims them. We also have random t shirts, jackets and right now we have a pair of girl's prescription glasses that no one will claim. Certainly one of my kids' friends knows that they are missing their glasses?
So- feel free to come by and check for socks-or anything else that might be missing from your house. It is probably here.
Ha! And now this afternoon doing laundry I found a darling girl's blue-jean jacket. Both girls say they have never seen it before. Haven't asked the son-possibly it is his girlfriend's? Except she is tiny and this jacket fits me- so I'm thinking maybe we won't look too hard for the owner.
I found some socks in the rubber seal in the front of the front loader (washer), where the door closes. Things that small seem to wedge in and get "lost".
I haven't read through all the other answers, so this may have already been suggested, but I was given a little mesh bag (I think just like a little lingerie bag) at my baby shower, and it works great!
I have never lost a sock. When they come out of the dryer, I pair them up, folding one inside the other. They get put away in clothes drawers so husband and children can find them. It's too hectic for people to be matching up socks out of the dryer or a mesh bag in the morning.
Depending on how old your kiddos are, you could try to implement a new rule that socks should be matched up and rolled up together BEFORE tossing them into the dirty clothes hampers. Then, when you get ready to throw in a load, if you have to separate each pair on the way into the water, then you'll be for sure to get each clean matched up pair out of the dryer. And if THAT doesn't work..........then yes, your dryer is definitely eating your socks. =0)
Good Luck with that!
I am in the same boat as you...AND I already buy all the same socks for my boys...I am convinced we have a sock eating goblin in my house some where.
My dad used to always have that problem. He found these nifty little things that are rings hooked together that you put your socks in. In the wash, take the out of the dryer, wear, & put them back in. Keeps them together all the time. No more lost socks!
Unfortunately I have no idea what the name of the things are, but I think they got them at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
My dog eats them! We buy Vans and she goes sockless quite often.
I don't do anything special to keep socks together.
However, one of the places that socks go is . . .
if you have a top-loading washer,
sometimes socks go "over the top"
into the space between the exterior and the washing container.
I think the mesh bag is a good idea.
My kids are grown so I don't have to deal with kids socks.
But for myself, whenever I buy socks,
I buy AT LEAST three or more pairs of the same color/style.
Usually SIX.
Works for me.
Oh. Just remembered . . . .
sometimes, just for my own amusement,
I'll wear sox that don't match.
For example, one white and one black, same style.
Or one red and one green.
Depends on situation.
I don't know if this helps you or not, but I have a "loose" sock basket that I keep for each member of the family. If we do a load of laundry and find that there are single socks without a mate, then we go to the loose sock basket to see if we can find the other half. If it isn't there, the single sock stays in that basket until we find it's partner. This way, we don't ever have singles in the sock drawer.
