Hi Mamas. I looked through the archives but had trouble finding what I needed so I'll ask here. I need a book for 3-4 year olds that explains where babies come from. I don't need anything graphic, but I prefer honesty and simplicity. I don't ask for much do I? Thanks for any help you can provide!

So What Happened?

I found a nice book called "When You Were Inside Mommy" by Joanna Cole. Just enough information for my daughter. She loves to read it!!

Hi J., I found this great book that explains where babies come from and explains it more from the baby's perspective as they are growing in the belly. The title is Angel in the Waters. Its so sweet and best of all you can view it and read it completely online for FREE!! Can't beat that. The link is below. Let me know if you find it useful.

When I was pregnant with #2, my first was 2. We bought the book What to Expect When Mommy's Having a Baby. I thought it was very well written. It is perfect for little ones. It gives information, but only as much as they need and can understand. Good luck!

Okay...I'm dating myself, but I found a book from when I was a kid. The copyright date is 1968 and the name of the book is, "How Babies are Made." by Andrew C. Andry and Steven Schepp. Time-Life Books, NY. There is no ISBN number, but there is a Library of Congress number: 68-55284. The pictures are dated and the words are graphic, but my 5 year old LOVES it! He says it's one of his favorite books! It talks first about how flowers are pollenated by bees, then how a baby chick is born, then onto humans. I liked it when I was a kid. My parents changed the words a bit, but it will give you honesty, that's for sure! Best of luck.

We just bought Amazing You by Dr Gail Saltzer. Our son is 5, but I would have been comfortable reading this to him earlier. It's simple, with cheerful illustrations, addresses body parts and reproduction in an age-appropriate fashion.

Hi J.,

I recently purchased "The Story of Me" by Stan and Brenna Jones. It is book 1 in a series of God's Design for Sex for children ages 3-5. I have an 3 1/2 year old, and haven't shared it with her yet, but planning on doing so when she's closer to 4 and asking the "where babies come from" question. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Usborne books has an awesome where do babies come from book! I am ordering it and am not even pregnant yet with #2. It's beautifully illustrated in a cartoon manner which is very appealing to kids and it is very simple, straight to the point and honest in a gentle, kids book kind of way. It's called "How are babies made". Their website is usborne.com-you can just type the title in the search box and it will pull it up so you can see it. I have a friend named Carolyn who sells them, so if you're near the Round Lake area let me know & I can give you her info so you don't have to figure out how to get it online and then you could also peek at it first before spending money! Take Care. :-)

J.,

Another mama mentioned the Usborne Book. I am a consultant, and if you are interested in it, you can visit my secure website. The Flip Flap book can be bought separately as How are Babies Made in paperback for 7.95. It is also part of a combined volume for a little more - The Flip Flap Body Book for 14.95 (hardback)

www.ubah.com/h2353

Once you enter the "Bookstore" just type in Flip Flap in the search box and it should pull both options up on the page.

If you order it online, it can be shipped directly to you.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I had that talk with my 3-1/2 yr old very interested and inquistive boy. I did not have a book but I did have a magazine from my ob/gyn from each time I was pregnant. We went through it together. It showed the growth of the baby each month up until it is born. I kept my answers/info very basic and simple. As for how they get in the belly...I told him that Moms and Dads make them. I left those answers very simple - but with truth :)

I don't believe 3-4 years olds need much information on that subject. They're all curious when mommy get p.g. You can hold the child and tell them that sometimes when mommies and daddies are very blessed, GOD will take their kisses ad turn them ino a beautiful baby to share with the bigger brother or sister. It takes a very long time for the new baby to grow in mommy just like when your other little one was concieved thru GODS miracle. That should be plenty. Good luck. Don't get to graphic to early. You little one will repear it to other schoolmates and some parents can start a real fuss about it.

When I was pregnant I really could not find any good books that where not to graphic or not the truth. So I don't know if you are pregnant or know someone close to you and the kids that are, but when I was pregnant with my second child my first was very curious! So I took a picture of myself and made a flap where my belly is and stuck a picture of a baby inside. It was fun for him to play with mommy's belly and "see" his new brother.

Go the to the library and there is a video called "Where did I come from?". This is an animated video which I showed all 4 of my children when they were 5 years old (my oldest is now 28 and my youngest are twins who are now 15 1/2). I have to admit its very truthful and at times I was surprised how honest it was, but all of the kids just accepted it and the video really held their attention. Not sure if this comes in book form.
