Where Do You Buy Good Quality Clothes at Reasonable Prices?

Upscale second hand stores......they can be the best. You can find very good quality, long lasting clothing for such a good price. Don't be embarrassed and don't knock it til you try it!

The things that hold up the best for me are Gap Kids and Gymboree. Both places usually have very good sales and you can get great clothes for very reasonable prices. In fact, right now Gymboree has 30% off everything in the store and that includes already on sale items.

Honestly, we have a few pretty large thrift stores around here...and a lot of the best stuff my kids have gotten (as well as myself) has been stuff that I've found there. It is kind of hit and miss...but if I'm in the area and swing in...I almost always find a decent handful of top brand clothing that looks hardly worn...for just a few bucks. My kids are outside so much and their clothes really take a beating. I just can't see spending an arm and a leg on something that's going to have grass stains, mud stains, holes in the knees, fresh blueberry and blackberry juice smeared all over...etc.

I think "good quality" might be subjective. In any event...

Try Ross, Marshall's, TJ Maxx - all often have name brand/better quality clothing for way less than retail. Old Navy often has really good clearance sales, but I wouldn't consider their clothes great quality. Same with Children's Place. I don't like the feel or quality of the clothing at Walmart, & Kmart - they are very rough, thin, stitching is off, sizing is weird. Target has some decent stuff.

Also, if you are not opposed to 2nd hand clothing, try Ebay or Craigslist for lightly used/hardly worn lots of brand name/good quality clothing. Lots of times the clothing looks new & is sold at a huge discount.

Sometimes I think it's more about what type of detergent you use, what cycle you use & what water temperature you use, when washing the clothing, that makes it fade, moreso than the actual quality of the clothing.

We love Naartjie and Hanna Andersson but as far best quality for your buck? Hands down it is landsend. I bought some at end of season they were $6.99 + 30 % off then I had a coupon for $25 off $75. Landsend don't fade and their linen are the best. I am pretty rough with the laundry and still no rips , no wholes no fading. I have a messy 6 y/o and I swear it is like Bruce Lee in Nunchucks (sp?) the way it repels stains.

Kohls and Macy's clearance racks! I noticed that my friend's daughter and mine had the same jeans both from Kohls and my daughter's were faded more, my friend said she washes in cold water and it helps with the clothes not fading so much. I also find descent clothes with good prices for my kids at Old Navy. Good Luck!

I used to spend so much money on our clothes, until I started shopping at Salvation Army. I know it's not for everyone, but my kid's closets are full of Children's Place, Old Navy, Gap, Justice, I don't but anything unless it's name brand looks BRAND NEW and i don't pay more than $3-4 a piece. However, you should probably leave the kids at home and go with plenty of time/patience. The SA out here has 50% off the entire store every other friday and kids clothes are usually 50% off on thursdays too.

I believe the way you launder has a lot to do with clothes holding up as well as the quality.

I buy a good bit from White House Black Market, Nordstrom, Neimans, and specialty boutiques.

I'm a believer in you get what you pay for. I've had some pieces that still look brand new that are over 10 yrs old.

I also have a great dry cleaners and I utilize them as well.

I try REALLY hard to find clothing that is made in the USA. It's tough to find, but I know I have been seeing more and more USA-made selection. Otherwise I try to buy things made ANYWHERE but China.
Stores for me? Mostly Macy's, Kohl's, TJMaxx, Marshalls.
Stores for my tween boy? Kohl's (although their 8-14 section leaves a LOT to be desirted!), Land's End, Children's Place (not so much lately) or sporting goods stores. Occasionally Target for t's and shorts for him.

Target is great! Kids clothes are stylish, fun, cute and cheap and last a long time. I have 2 girls that are 2 years apart so hand me downs are a must. I also get clothes from friends with older girls- they still seem to be in great shape even after 3 kids have wore them.

I buy most of my clothes (with the exception of shoes, socks and foundation items) at Goodwill or lower-end casual consignment shops. You can often pick through and find brands that wear well: LL Bean, Land's End... I have a couple of Caslon tees I like, Gap jeans, etc. I like the variety and as I'm hard to fit, it's nice to have a lot of choices regarding sizing.

I also use Biokleen washing detergent and wash everything on cold.

And for Kiddo, we hit the kids consignment/resale shops and love the Hanna Andersenn gift cards he gets. Their clothes wear very well.

I buy Goodwill.

My wife buys at the children's stores.

I have purchased at target, old navy, macys, and walmart. But this brand survives more washes than any brand represented in my above list. Their prices are similar to target prices maybe a smidge more. But they mix and match so great. And I can buy my little girls coordinating colors, different outfits which is fun. At first I thought the styling was a little hippy dippy for us, but I'm over that. These clothes are adorable on. Cuter than the pictures even. I'd rather own a few of these mix and match outfits than stacks of cheaper brands. Also the styling is really smart and my kids just don't grow out of them as quickly as other styles.

Honestly, it all depends on what I am buying and why. I am h*** o* my clothes so I try not to spend too much on them no matter what.

A lot of my kids' clothes come from Nordstrom, but for clothing for summer camp, or just the "basics," we shop at Target. A lot of the things we've bought there have lasted through my two girls and have been handed down to their younger cousin. I think that's pretty impressive for shorts that cost $9.99 or a t-shirt that cost $6.99! We have not had trouble with the Target clothing fading or wearing out.

For little kids... Target.

Believe it or not Walmart... I have some White Stag that I bought cheap tthinking they'd only last a year to two, I've had them 7 years.

Osh Kosh makes great quality clothing for kids.

You can find good deals at Kohl's (sales and clearance), but I find the quality to be hit or miss. I've found some great quality and some ok quality.

My clothes come from Walmart and never fade in the wash. I wash like colors together on warm and white or lights on hot with bleach.

I have even put some bleach in the colors and dark's if they had smells like pee or pooh in them. I start the water, add the laundry powder, add a bit of bleach, NOT a full cup or even half a cup in the dark's. Then after the washer fills I add the clothes. That way I don't have bleach stains on them. I have never had bleach stains or faded clothes.

I would say it is your laundry soap or additives in the water that is making the clothes fade.

I have no issues with any clothes I buy fading and I buy cheap. Most of our clothes are on their 4th or 5th kid too. I never throw anything out but pass it on and switch out between kids.

JCPenney, Kohls, Children's Place, Carter's Outlet, Osh Kosh Outlet, and Baby/Kid's Gap Outlet. All have great sale prices, cute clothes, and good quality.

I love Target, and my kids live in the Granimals collection at Walmart.

As mentioned Marshall's and TJ Maxx are great and so are Macy's clearance sales.

Washing in cold water and drying on low also help clothing last long. Depnding on the clothes a shorter or slower spin cycle can also help them last longer.

For ladies, I think Ann Taylor Loft is the best as is Banana Republic. White House is also good but much more expensive. Wherever you choose to shop, get a store card because you will get lots of coupons and discounts. I think Target is very over rated as is Kohls. I guess if you don't really care about fit then go to Walmart for yourself. But if you want to be stylish I would not reccomend it. For kids, I think Carters is great and so is Gymboree and Gap Kids. Children's Place has lots of good stuff too and is very reasonable. Also, use a good laundry detergent and don't launder too much. Wash inside out.
