Where to Get the Best Deal on School Shoes?

It's that time again! This time around I have a first and second grader (both girls) and...they care about their shoes now. I'm always on the lookout for good deals, but they just informed me that all they want are the gawdy, bright, never-on-sale sketchers or chuck t's. Soooo...where do I go to get them nice quality shoes without spending $50 or more each? Especially since I will inevitably have to buy them each boots, sandals, and schoolyard school. Is there an online sight that works or a store that typically has good deals?

What can I do next?

I bought my daughter's sketchers at kohls when I had a 30% off coupon. I bought her Mary Janes for $15 at Payless last year and they lasted the entire school year in great condition.

Crazy 8 is a great store they are the connected to Gymboree. The sales are unbeatable. Also Children's place has all those glitzy skeechers look a likes without the skeechers price. Marshalls always has skeechers in their stores I usually get them for around 19-25.00, also Marshalls has lay away which I love.

Because my kids are rough on shoes I almost always buy their shoes as Sears. Sears has a program called Kid Advantage that you can sign up for for free. If your child wears out their shoes or clothing before they outgrow them, then you can exchange the shoes/clothing for the same size/brand. They carry Sketchers, New Balance, Converse, and so much more. Their selection for sizing isn't always the best and sometimes takes a little work, but the last size my son was in we replaced his shoes 4 times before I needed to upgrade to the next size. My daughters "twinkle toes" were replaced 3 times. And, Sears frequently puts their shoes on sale so I never pay full price. With that said, however, it's worth it to pay the extra money for quality shoes that I know we can replace free of charge.

Get on the email list for Shoebuy.com. They often have good sales. Also Famous Footwear. Join their "club" and you'll earn coupons each time you buy from them.

Marshall's, TJ Max, also Shoe Carnival, I'm not sure if there's one out by you but usually around "back to school" shopping they always do the buy one get one half off which is a great deal when you buying for children! I also know that Target sell's the Converse shoe's that are reasonably priced too. I would also recommend on going online and try finding coupons for the stores you like to shop at, the more you save the better! Good Luck!

I have boys and we often find great shoes at Sports Authority, Sports Chalet or Big 5 (sneakers or Tevas, no dress shoes obviously!) They always have shoes on clearance and they are usually pretty cool ones. Good luck!

I usually shop online. Prices are better and I almost always save on the tax. I also make sure to order from places with free shipping and returns. Piperlime.com currently has some Sketchers on sale for less than $30. They do charge tax, but they offer free shipping and returns. Endless.com is another fave site. Nordstroms is having their sale right now and they also have Sketchers on sale for about $30. I also make sure to shop through Fatwallet.com or MrRebates.com to take advantage of their rebate offers (Nordstroms, Endless and Piperlime are all offered).

Happy Shopping!

are the maryjanes allowed in gym class? Not at our school!

& as a head's up, kids are cruel. If you insist on not allowing your kids to mainstream when it comes to basic fashion, they will be made fun of. Sad, but true. Put them in good tennies, let them flow with the trend, & buy cheaper maryjanes for when they are with you. It's not like they're asking for cropped tops & navel rings.......!!

Most clothes, shoes, etc go on sale in the next 3 weeks...in prep for school. That's when you'll find the deals & bargains!

We go to the Shoe Dept. I think you can shop online and get better variety with most stores. I always think there are better shoes online at Payless than in the stores.

Target has Converse Chuck T's. I bought some for my son. They have the pink and purple high and low tops and the ones with glitter. I think that they are less than $30 per pair. I have also had great luck with eBay. I have a hard time paying lots of money for brand new shoes when their feet grow so fast!!

I can sometimes find good, brand name shoes at Ross for half the original price. I just picked up a pair of Chucks for my daughter at the Converse outlet. If you sign up for their e-mails they will occasionally send a Friends and Family coupon for 30% off. I bought her the original high top chucks (NEVER on sale!) for only $21. I also search the clearance section of endless.com for deals.

For Skechers, I go to the Skechers outlet in Encino where there is always a buy 1 pair, get the 2nd half off. For Converse, Brooks Shoes in Santa Monica has a mailing list that I am on. They will send coupons in Aug that range from the Buy One, Get One Half Off to a specific percentage. Brooks has all the name brand selections if your girls want the specific brand. For the dress shoes that they never wear, I will go to Payless or Ross. Now that my kids are older, the Camarillo Outlet (on holiday weekends especially) has been great for real running shos like Asics or New Balance ... The Stride Rite / Keds outlet there was great for toddler / preschool shoes & they see Asics there, too.

I will spend a little more on my kids' shoes and bargain shop their other clothing. Mine wear the same one or two pairs of shoes every day, so it's worth it to spend the $ to get something comfortable that will last.

For tennis shoes, I've had good luck at Big 5. They have great sales, rotate the shoes on sale and sometimes give me last weeks or the next weeks deal if the shoes we want are not the ones on sale at that moment.

Payless has dress shoes for cheap. Since my kids wear these for church, recitals and spcial occassions, they only have to be comfortable for a couple hours at a time and are gently worn so can be less durable.

PediPed was just having a huge sale on their wesite! They are awesome shoes, very sturdy and great for their feet. You can also find them on ebay many times. Just a thought, if you do end up spending $50 or more on these shoes (and they can be spendy when not on sale) you can always resell them on ebay, at consignment stores, yard sales, craigslist..... they are amazing shoes! :) good luck!
