My husand and I are looking to purchase a cow that is grown organicly (USDA Certified). I we are looking for one that's local, so if you can point us in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance :-)

My family raises cattle and when people say that the organic meat thing is a scam- they're wrong. USUALLY, not all, but usually the only people who pump their animals full of stuff are the ones who sell to grocers, etc. I wish I could help you in finding a good place to go, but I can't. Sorry. Just know that it's not a scam.
We bought 1/4 of a cow from my uncle and I just wanted to say that it was a lot of meat so be sure you have a big freezer if your getting a whole cow!
USDA certification is not a scam. My mother is in the process of converting her farmland to organic, and it is a three year process supervised by US Dep of Ag. Anyways, I'm in Salina KS, but if you don't find anything near you, you could try Thelander's Acme Farm 4228 E. Crawford Str, Salina KS, 67401, ###-###-####. I'm not sure if they are certified yet, but I buy their farm products from our local coop, and they have great stuff.

A professor of mine in the past loves a butcher/meat store in Lawrence that is ALL organic and fresh. He swore that if anyone ever tried the meat, we would never eat "grocery" store meat again.

my dad works for the USDA and says the "organic" animal thing is a scam and can actually be dangerous...although he deals mostly with poultry, but im sure its the same with cattle. He had good reasonings and they all made sense but was an overheard conversation, so I cant recall details at the moment, but can ask if you like. Just be careful

My dad has been an organic farmer for over 25 years. To retain his organic certification has been very tedious, and yes, it is real. His farm is certified with the state of Missouri, and his meat is inspected to sell. He is located just south of KC in Garden City, MO, and he sells to lots of people in the KC area. His cows are a Belgian-blue mix, which means that they are very low in fat, and very low in cholesterol. You are getting the best of both worlds (organic and low-fat) with his beef. I live close to Branson, and I sell a lot down here for him. You can buy his beef by the whole, 1/2 or 1/4 ($2.50/lb hanging weight) OR if you just prefer hamburger (it's actually whole beef burger), you can buy that by the 1 lb. package($4/lb). He is just a small farmer, he doesn't even advertise on the internet or anything, but he has many customers that LOVE his beef, and it really is great.

I don't know of a farm however, try going into green acers or wild oats and look in their meat department, I bet they buy organic meat from a local source. good luck.
I would just call a local butcher like Sigs in Derby. I buy my organc meat at Dillons. If that helps any. Other than that I have no clue.
