My family is looking into taking a mini-vacation to the Arkansas area mid October. Husband would love to fish and spend some time on the lake. I would like to relax and maybe shop a little. Hot Springs was suggested, but not sure where to stay or what to do?? Any suggestions? We are open to more destinations other than Hot Springs.

What can I do next?

don't know if your looking for a hotel or some secluded place but my husband and i stayed here last year. The cabin is awsome the owner is a retired park ranger and knows the fishing. The cabin is up a very small road but the location, the furnishing, the small creek beside it..everything was AWSOME!

hot springs is fun the first visit but there is not as much to it as you would think. very touristy. petit jean park is beautiful and the areas around the bufflo river. depends on if you like the outdoors a lot or if you want a city kind of visit.

Check out Lake DeGray (not sure on spelling) if you are interested in Hot Springs area. It's close to town and has beautiful cabins on the lake so hubby can fish, or hotel if you prefer that too. It's been quite a few yrs since I've been to that particular hotel but I remember the prices were great. When you go to town make sure to tour one of the bath houses with the natural springs. Lots to do in my opinion, just walk into one of the tourist shops near the bath house and they can tell you what you need to check out. Also there are usually brochures at the hotels to get ideas of where you want to go.

I recently took a short vacation to Eureka Springs and LOVED it! There are multiple places to stay and lots to do. The downtown area is so pretty! All old historical buildings and great shops and galleries IMHO. Where to stay would depend on amount you are willing to pay but I suggest you check this area out.
