I would suggest putting vsaline on it before bed and when he gets up. If you stay ot home or he goes somewhere where it can be applied more often, then do it. If that does not work look for a cream to apply for dry skin. D.
My son recently developed what looks like serious dry skin around his mouth and on his chin. I've tried putting baby lotion on it several times a day but it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?
We ended up having to go to the ER for some breathing problems so I asked the doc there to look at it. Turns out, he just drools too much. I have to try to keep him dry and the doc recommended aquaphor to coat it. Thanks for the good advice ladies. Turns out Aiden has RSV so we have bigger fish to fry right now. The inhaler they gave him is already helping though so maybe he'll feel better in a few days.

Is it a type of thrush? that usually happens in their mouths, but maybe?
it could just be dry from this time of year - this is our first cold spell and it is really dry out. If it was anywhere else, I would say to put 100% cortizone on it once per day (my dr said not to use 100% more than once per day - my son has minor excema). My only worry is that if it is really close to his mouth that he might ingest some and I don't know if that is dangerous or not. If it isn't going away on its own and it has been there for three days or so, I would take him by the doctor - better safe than sorry.
Most likely it is just dry skin, but worst case - it could be a fungus or something in which case you will be happy you got him to the dr.
there is a product called aquafor (sp?) you can get it just about anywhere...they also make a generic..that works the best.
It sounds like your son may have excema. My son has it, and it first appeared when he was less than a month old. It looked like dry white/slightly reddish patches, sometimes with little bumps. He gets the rashes in different places on his body, but when he was a baby he usually got them on his chin. The doctor said the rash was aggravated by his drooling, which babies tend to do. He prescribed a special cream for babies with excema. I also used an OTC cream for babies. (I can't remember the name of it, but it comes in a green tube. Same company also makes a cream for cradle cap--which my son had too. I bought it at Wal-Mart and also at drug stores like CVS.) Even with special med cream for excema, it takes time for the patches to clear up. I find that keeping my son's skin hydrated (with a good all natural lotion, like you can get at Whole Foods or other health stores) all the time really helps minimalize the break-outs. It's best to put the lotion on after bath time, when your son's skin is moist and will absorb the lotion quicker. There are also some really good all-natural products to add to your baby's bath--there is an oatmeal one that works well. Excema isn't too serious, except it itches a bit and looks bad. Just make sure with the pediatrician that your son really has excema, and s/he can give you the right medicine. Hope this helps.
We use Eucerin lotion, it sounds like your son has chapped skin. Probably a mix of cold weather and drool. We moved from Florida (Vero Beach) two years ago, NC is definitely different than FL but it has treated us well since we have been here. Also, use a humidifier at night to help keep his nose/skin moist, the heater sucks the moisture out of skin so bad. Good luck!
My daughter had white dry patches on her skin too but hers were on her arms and legs. I took her to the doctor and she had Eczema. The doctor gave us a cream and it really helped. Have you taken him to the doctor? You might want to ask the doctor about Eczema. My daughter got those patches when she was about a year old, but she has not had any flare ups for about 3 years now and she is almost 9. Maybe this will help :)

Make sure to wash the area after he has his milk and then apply a thin layer of Aquaphor to the skin. It should heal up in no time.... good luck.
Hey there, we are from florida too and this weather is crazy. My oldest used to have this problem and we took him to a dermatologist. They gave us soap and cream and hes much better. If you have tricare they will pay for it but you ahve to call first then go to your PCM and get a referal. Well hope this helps.
Have you tried Aquaphor? It's available at the pharmacy near the Eucerin creme. Good for dry skin! Good luck!
