I use a CD with lullabies or other soothing music for my daughter, and I set the player to repeat, so it plays all night. She has slept through the night ever since! :)
My 10 week old son has finally started to fall into some form of "going to bed" routine. He sleeps from about 11PM to 5:30, wakes up for a bottle, then sleeps til 7:30 to 8AM. My issue now is him STAYING asleep. He goes to sleep fine with his mommy womb sounds bear and the music from his mobile going, however both of these have a timer and shut off after so long. Not too long after these cut off, his eyes pop back open. I can go into his nursery, turn his "noise makers" back on and pop the passy back in, and put him back to sleep. But, as soon as they cut off, he's right back awake.
Is there anything out there that will make noise all night? Everything seems to have a timer to it. Usually I give up and bring him to bed with me (and he sleeps great!). I don't want to keep this up because I can feel a habit forming real quick! Thanks!!

I had the same problem with my two children (now 3yrs old and 4 1/2 yrs old). They each have a small fan in their room that I keep going all night and the noise from the fan helps get them to sleep and keep them asleep or lull them back to sleep, when they wake up. The noise from the fan also helps to mask noises in the house, so they don't wake up when I do dishes, watch TV, clean-up around the house, etc.
Might be worth a shot. Good luck.
We use fans. I have a somewhat of a little black fan in my room and my boys room. Dh works nites so it helps him sleep in the day bc it blocks out sound.
You can find some at Wal-mart. I now my brother had one that played sounds from nature. Try Radio Shack too.
We use a white noise machine (Conair brand) that I bought at Target. It also plays sounds other than white noise. The advantage of a white noise machine over a fan, which is what we used when my son was a baby, is that you can control the volume on the white noise machines. They also use less energy to run, I believe.
We use a sound machine. We bought it at Babies R Us, but you can buy them just about anywhere.
Find a station on the radio that doesn't come in clear (all static) and leave it on all night.
We use to have the same issue with my son. I got a CD player that has a repeat button on it, so it would continue to play all night long. I would put it on softly in the background so that when the bear stopped beating, there would still be a continuous background noise. I would play some relaxing classical music. Eventually we were able to fade it to just the music with no bear. He is now 3 and still enjoys going to sleep with the music on, but it just goes through one cycle instead of all night long. Good luck. I know have a four week old too. :)
We use a honeywell air purifier. It cleans the air while it's making noise. It is really loud on the high setting. It works really well for us.
There are several radios that offer nature sounds (i.e. ocean, rainforest, etc). i believe you can keep these on for hours on end. i once made a cassette tape of the running bath water for one of my sons. it too, turned off after 60-90 minutes, but it worked for me. good luck.
I use a noise maker made by DEX products that was purchased at Babys R US. It has several different sounds and you can either turn it on continuously or turn a timer on. I use it with my youngest to help drown out the sounds of his three older sisters. I love it!
I used to turn the radio to a snowy station, and also we had a small b&w t.v. that we would put on a snowy channel, and my son loved it.
Babies R Us has a Sound Machine - all sots of sounds, including the womb sound - I think it's around $20.
I used a CD player with my son. I put in soft music or you can actually get womb sounds/white noise CDs. We would just put it on low and let it play all night.
This one I know! If you have a baby or you're like one of my husbands friends (our 26 yr old child...ha!) a small box fan or standing fan will do the trick. I bought a cheep $12 osculating fan at Home Depot when my son was an infant and pointed it so it wouldn't blow directly on him (which would have woken him up) and now we use use it in my husbands work shop. Hope that helps!

go to Brookstone or Sharper Image, they have white noise machines (they even play other sound) or look on the internet google "white noise machines". I had one that I have had since college, and my son has slept through the night since 2 months.
I have a cd that has a heart beat behind the music that i play for my 1 year old and it puts him to sleep so fast. I can make a copie and send it to you if you would like. It is christian music of little kids songs. let me know e-mail ____@____.com
Hey there... When my kids were young and even still to this day I have a radio/cd player in their room and leave that on all night. It seems to do the trick. It will stay on all night and they sleep like babies.... Hope this helps...
We use a fan. We'd put a small fan in our son's room because our a/c had conked out and we were just trying to keep his room cool... but it was wonderful. He stopped waking at the crack of dawn and slept through his entire nap time without waking. So we kept using it even when it wasn't really necessary for temperature control. Even a small clip-on fan would probably work-- you don't need airflow, just noise, and the cheaper ones seem to be the noisier ones! In the winter you can use the fan or a small space heater (obviously, the "safe" fan-type ones)-- we did this, and it helped keep our son asleep and let us drop the heat in the rest of the house, so our heating bills went down--a real bonus! Good luck with this!
I know a lot of moms use a fan; good and easy white noise.
We use a box fan. It provides white noise and drowns out the older brother, tv, and even the doorbell. :-)
we use the DEX Sound Sleeper, it was about 25$ at BabiesRUs. We've used it since day 1 on 'ocean' continuously; he sleeps fine without it now if power goes out during storms, but it's just more peaceful in his room with it!!
I highly recommend the Marpac Sleepmate 980. It's about the size of a small coffee can, makes no wind, and makes a continuous white noise sound similar to a box fan. It is wonderful at masking house noise, as well. It has two speeds and you can adjust the tone of the white noise. We had to order it online (costs around $50), and it has been well worth the investment. We used to use a CD of white noise, but like you, my son would wake when it faded out. When we bought this sleepmate, my son started sleeping 7-7 straight- literally that night (could be coincidence, I guess)! His room is right next to ours, and we have also gotten used to its hum at night. We all sleep great!
I have a sound machine from babies r us. You can plug it in or it will run on batteries but it does have a setting that it never turns off. We leave it plugged in and it is on all the time. It costs $20.
Hi C.,
i am using a white noise machine for both of my kids. i got both at radioshack. they play 5 to 10 diffrent noises and the newest one also has a night light with it. i payed 20 dollars for each of them. you can make them play all night or have a timer on it. hope that helps!!!

We used a combination of three things:
1. CD player with a lullabye CD in it -- 30 to 45 minutes
2. Her room standing air filter made noise.
3. The plug in True Air filters also make almost a white noise. My Mom still uses these to combat her snoring husband.
We used a radio set on static which seemed to work! Maybe if you have it on with the other things, he won't notice when the others turn off. Good luck.
My son is 20 months old and ever since he was little I have played a white noise CD. It has seemed to help. I just put it on repeat and it runs all night. I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but maybe it'll help.
