My son will be one years old on 8/6. How did you transition from formula to whole milk. Also, the formula I give him now is Similac go and grow which is for toddlers from 9-24 months,would that be as good as milk?
We did half formula/half whole milk. He didnt seem to notice or mind. I dont know about the Similac so I cant help ya there.
My son just turned 1, and how I did was change out a bottle at a time. He is down to 3 bottles (morning, afternoon, and night). I traded out the afternoon one, then a week later I traded the morning one, and a week after that, the nighttime one. He had no problem drinking the milk, but I did it as I did not want to upset his tummy changing cold turkey. My SIL did that with my niece, and she had tummy issues for a week or two as she adjusted.
As for the Go and Grow formula, I have found that it is good if you are away from home. I don't really have a way to keep a cup of milk cold when we are out, but I can bring some water and some of that formula, and it works great. My doctor also said the toddler formula was unnecessary, but it is not bad in any way, and it makes it easier than carrying a cooler around on long days!
what i did was a month or so before go ahead & introduce milk in a cup at breakfast, just about 4 ounces & let them drink as much as they want of it, that way they get it into their systems & are used to the taste before you just switch full time. if they tolerate it well & like it you can start giving them more
I never used the older formula so I can't say but I think they would probably like whole milk better because it has such a better taste even though they are use to formula. I just switched with both of mine and really had no problems...sometimes you can add a tiny bit of chocolate milk suryp and they may like that better at first if you do have trouble...good luck and God bless
I nursed my son, but occasionally supplemented with formula. I just tried giving him a bottle of milk to see what he would do, and he drank all of it! That was it! I know I was probably VERY blessed, but I would try going cold turkey...you might be surprised! If it doesn't work, then try mixing the formula and milk to transition.
All three of my breast fed/similac babies took one taste of the whole milk and I was history :)
Easy transition, but they just loved it. Good Luck and you will be amazed how much money you save too :)

Start out mixing the milk with the formula. Just a little milk to start and then gradually decrease the formula and increase the milk until he takes just plain milk. It may take a week or two to transition, but beleive me it is a LOT cheaper (even at $5 a gallon).

We did 1/2 formula 1/2 milk until we ran out of our last formula and then to milk completely. No problems and he loves milk.
Just a suggestion about the cost of formula. I have twins that had a milk issue. We use the powdered milk called leche by Nestle. It is usually in the mexican products. My kids love it. You then can mix it when you want and it is a whole lot cheaper. My daughter has a temperature adversion. She won't drink cold things. She had no problems at all with this. So for those of you that like the convenience of formula this is my suggestion.
My pediatricians recommendation was to switch him cold turkey. When I asked him about the toddler formulas, he smiled and said that the formula companies would love me if I used their toddler formulas, but there really wasn't any reason unless your child isn't eating enough solids and needs the extra vitamins.
Hi, D.! I'm not familar with that type of formula -- my son if 5 and they didn't have that then.
But... How I made the transition from milk to formula was to mix bottles/cups with about 1/3 milk and 2/3 formula for a day or so, then 1/2 and 1/2, then 2/3 milk and 1/3 formula, then all milk. It worked great for us.
I was SOOOOOOOOO glad to get off of formula as it was so much more expensive than milk.

My pedi basically said that it is a great way for Similac to continue to take your money! Milk is fine - no need for the continued formula! Way to expensive - save your money and do something nice for yourself with it! I just made the switch to milk without mixing half and half, etc. Both of my kids did fine. Good luck - both of mine transitioned without a fuss.
