Hi BKL, personally, I think it's time to call the Doc. If I had only 1600 calories a day and did 5 days of cardio, in three months I would drop 30 pounds, somethings not right here.
:(
I have been working out faithfully for 3 months doing Jillian Michaels workouts atelast 5 days a week and they are a combo of cardio and strength training. I've been keeping my calories below 1600 a day and my meals consist of lean meats, veggies, fruit, and the occasional treat. I have cut out pop and I drink 60-90 ounces of water a day. What is wrong with me? I'm about to give up. Everyone else around me loses weight in the first month. Me...not a pound.

I didn't lose much weight as I got smaller and more toned. I actually don't weigh myself, just work out and watch calories and see how clothes fit. muscle is WAY heavier than fat, so if you weren't huge to begin with, you're probably gaining muscle. If you do have lots of "flub" to lose, you should be losing it if you have been THAT diligent for 3 months. Maybe you need even less calories. I usually stick to 1200 when I need to lose, and I'm 5'9.
While you might be building muscle which takes time to catch up on the scale..to not lose a singe lb in a month sounds like it could be a Thyroid issue. I would check with your doctor and a nutritionist if you continue not to see any progress.
Measure yourself instead of weighing. It'll show the results of toning when the scale isn't reflecting your work. I know it's extremely frustrating (and have been there over the last couple of months too), but you have to admit, you feel better when you're eating right and exercising regularly! Stick with it; it's worth it!
Talk to your gyno - sometimes pregnancy makes your thyroid go wacky and can actually causes you to gain weight after the birth.
www.caloriecount.com has tools to find your caloric needs, exercise needs etc to lose weight. Chances are you arent counting properly because with the info given, you would definately lose weight. Try the site, chart every single thing you consume for a few days, your weight, activity, etc... you will find some answers.
It sounds like you are doing this on your own and instead of giving up might just need some help? Can you talk to your doctor? And then possibly find a personal trainer or some other professional advice. If you can't afford it see if you can find someone to go in with you ofetn personal trainers will be ahppy to train 2 or 3 people at the same time and there is extra motivation if someone else is doing it with you.
It could be a thyroid problem, but I was thinking that if you're doing cardio and strength training then you're building muscle. You're losing fat but you're building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. Maybe you should check to see how your weight is redistributing itself on your body and if your clothes are fitting differently than before. And what you want to start doing is fat burning exercises in addition to the cardio.
But really, don't listen to a bunch of random strangers on the internet. You need to talk to your doctor and a nutritionist. You should also talk to a trainer at the gym if you can in conjunction with your doctor, even if it's only a one time consult, so that you can get some real life face to face advice.
Do you eat breakfast? You should be eating within half hour of waking up and should not eat after 6 or so in the evening. If you are trying to get that last 10-15 pounds off, it is the hardest!! Just keep with it and it will come off. Fat is a stubborn beast, so just keep working out!!
do you look better?? That is what counts. You may definitely be turning the fat into muscle. Muscle does weigh more than fat. How do your clothes fit? Do they fit better?? Are you getting toned?
You haven't lost a THING?? That's odd.
I would try playing around with your calories. Try reducing it by a couple hundred, or increasing by a couple hundred. Don't calorie-shift too much, because that's not healthy. However, everyone's body responds better to different calorie levels. I tend to lose the most weight around 1800 cals/day. If I go much lower than that, my body goes into starvation mode and I don't lose a thing. That may be happening to you.
Good luck, I know it's frustrating but your body will eventually catch up to you if you keep on the right track. I'm impressed that you've stuck with it for three months. Keep going, you can do it!
Have you had a physical recently? My mom had similar issues (was going to the gym every day, hardly eating, still not losing a single pound). She went for her yearly physical and found out that she is diabetic! Her doctor put her on meds and she dropped about 15 pounds right away (she was never overweight, really - maybe 15 pounds over her high school weight, but they were a very stubborn 15 pounds!). Anyway, the point is, there are many different medical issues that could contribute - thyroid, etc. Worth checking into, for sure.
If it's not a medical issue, then... I hate to say it... you may need to just cut back on your calories. 1600 isn't a lot, but for you it may be too much (depending upon your height/weight, age, etc). And - the other thing to think about is that Jillian Michaels may be getting you into fantastic cardio shape, but your optimal fat-burning range is actually when you're physically active but not sweating (yes, really). Brisk walking may actually work better for fat burning for you. Just something to think about, and maybe work in along with the Jillian Michaels DVDs. Best of luck!!
You're turning your fat to muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat.
No, why can't I gain weight already!????? I do not like being small. I am very tall and I look too thin. I am very annoyed by it because I can't fit anything I like right. I know I am beyond the odd ball here, but I can't help it.
Anyway,I know it is discouraging and frustrating, like myself and I am ready to give up. I hope you can find something that will aid you in loosing your weight. I'm sure the responses will be helpful from other moms.
muscle weighs more that fat and that is what is happening to you. when you eat your foods may have an impact too. eating a big hearty breakfast is a great idea...and instead of a snack, you should start drinking 1 whey protein shake per day. Protein helps you feel fuller long and the protein is a great muscle building for toning your body..
so if you FEEL different and your pants are getting looser then you are on the right path.
I have issues with that too..Its hard for me to lose weight but the weight i need to lose is not much...MAYBE 10lbs...they are the hardest to lose .
Time to call the doctor!
Strange! Try running and yoga (great for ab muscles) if you can......
Hi. I am D., a Post Partum Doula and Newborn Specialist now that my boys are raised and in College. I have worked at helping people get fit for more than 18 years. I stayed home with my boys and did a nutrition weight loss business out of my home, because my husband traveled so much. Anyway, I have learned that your body needs certain combinations of proteins foods, and nutrients that your body recognizes and consumes so it doesn't have to hold the fuel from the foods you are eating. A lot is about the energy from our foods, too. We can talk if you would like.
I am a firm believer that diets do not work. The body figures it out and tends to store what you give it, in fear that (like in the caveman days when food was far between) the body will store the fat for energy.
Its always easier to lose weight. The hard part is to sustain the weight loss and not gain it back!
I am helping many many many people right now. I don't charge for my services, because I am with a company that not only pays us to promote a great product line that I would chose to take anyway, but this company Evolv Health also gives you, the customer, amazing support, motivation and prizes for being committed, just like you are trying to do already.
