Why Did My Monthly Cycle Change

Hi Moms!

I always had a SUPER predictable cycle. Every 32 days would get my period at 10:00 am! Very regular. After I had my son, I got my first period at 8 months, weaned him from nursing at 10 months. That was a year ago, I got a period every single month but now my cycles are short, every 26 days. And, I have spotting a few times throughout the month.

Does anyone have any information on why my cycle is so different now?

What can I do next?

Your body is changing. The average # of days between cycles is 28 but each woman is different. I would probably have the spotting in between cycles checked but this may be your new normal too.

Having babies changes our bodies in many ways.

I've found that around 30 years old, my cycles were shorter and more painful. Now, in my 40's, I don't get cycles every month, usually every other month, but that's perimenopause. My ob told me it's just your body aging. It also changes after you have a baby.

your cycle will change throughout your lifetime due to hormones, stress, pregnancies and a myriad of other things. I suggest reading the book, Take Charge of Your Fertility.. It really helped me begin to understand that which was happening with my body. It's not just for those wanting to get pregnant but also for those who don't want to and for those wishing to learn more about their monthly cycles. It has a wealth of information and it can also teach you how to manually track your cycle. I think it's a must read for any woman who is trying to gain a better understanding of their hormones and or monthly cycles..

good to you

I don't know why, but my period did the same thing. After #1, I got my period at 6 months (bf'ing exclusively) and it went from a 28 day cycle to a 23 day cycle. With #2, I got my period 2 weeks after lochia stopped (bf'ing exclusively, again) and it was roughly every 23 days, but a little irregular, and with #3, I got my period 2 weeks after lochia stopped, still breastfeeding exclusively, and I'm back to about 28 days--not quite as regular as I used to be, but my symptoms have returned to normal and I can now tell when I'm going to get my period so I'm prepared.
