Tonight we noticed our kitchen faucet water is slightly tinted orange. We also found it is orange from our other sinks as well. Any ideas as to why this is happening? We are just now noticing this tonight. Any ideas as to what we should do? Can we still shower tomorrow morning? Sorry for all the questions, but we haven't had this happen before. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

They did not recently flush the hydrants, so I'm still not sure what it was... This morning it appeared to be better. Not sure what to do from here.

I would also suggest that you do not drink the water until you know what it going on. Call your water provider to find out.
Most likely it is either weather related (if you had a lot of rain) or they have done some work on the water system - both can stir up sediments and is usually harmless.
But again... until you know, don't ingest it. Washing with it should be fine.

More than likely you have rust in your water. I water softener or filter will help and you really should consider getting a softer for your laundry room or you will have a surprise tie dye on your clothes when you least expect. Sometimes if your city is flushing hydrants it was cause your water to have more rust than usual. If you can check with your city on notices for hydrant flushing and avoid doing laundry on those days.

If you are on a well, it could be iron in your water. But if you are on city water, it could be rust. Either way, it might be a good idea to get your water tested and drink bottled water. Showers should be ok.

Don't forget to not wash clothes until it's figured out too. We've had it before from them flushing the hydrants on the street. Make sure it's all run out before you drink it or use it for something important. I'd say bathing would be OK.

This usually happens after a water main breaks. The water is rusty and will stain or clothes if you wash with this water. If you let yuor water run for a little while it usually clears up. Check with your water department to see if they have done repairs in your neighborhood. Hope this helps.

Do you have a soft water unit and is there enough salt in there? I am not from florida and have been here 5 years and I have been told that Fl water has a lot of iron in it. I am not sure if this would turn your water orange or not but I do know it leaves orange stains on tubs. I would check with the county if you are on city water, and if you are on well water I would have someone come look at it.

We have had that before. Usually when the water at the street is turned off. Sometimes from other reasons. Bottom line...DO NOT DRINK IT. It is rust. Wait an hour or two and start running the bathtub on high until the water runs clean. Then begin running each sing and flushing the toilets until all is clear. Once clear, you should be fine for showering. Maybe drink bottled water for a day or so or filter the cleared water. Good luck!
