O.k. so admintedly our family has been on wic for a few years now and I know that they always ask about going to school along with state insurance asking if you go to school. I wonder if that makes a difference or if they are just curious, Now that my kids are getting older I want to go back and finish the 15 credits I need for my degree. does doing this change the benefits that we get? Lessen the ammount, I don't know if we can handle school payments along with lessen amount of benefits. We have had a rough few years and I am looking forward to getting back to school so that I am ready for the workforce when I return in a few years. If you are familiar with this or go to school on state health and WIC please let me know.

Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thank you everyone for the information. And thanks for the FAFSA post, i looked into it and even though I am late to apply if I do qualify the school does reimburse for tuition. I am so glad someone posted on this as I would have never thought to look into it. I didn't really think they would reduce benefits but with everything that has happened to us i didn't want to make life even harder for personal gain!!

First of all, fill out a FAFSA. It will tell you if you qualify for the Federal Pell Grant. If you are then it will help cover the cost of schooling, if not entirely cover it. You can always fill out the FAFSA and register for classes and see what is required of you financially. If it is something that you can't handle, then withdraw before classes begin! Good luck!

WIC is just trying to help you, they can give information or even help if you need anymore help with your school. Your going to school does not affect your WIC Benefits. Just go ahead. Best LUCK!!!!!

It's 2 parts:

1) There are more programs for those that are in school (daycare subsidies, etc.)

2) In the income/outgo part school money counts differently. Take my H and I. When my son was a baby we were both in school. Our "income" was between 40-50k. BUT 9/10ths of that was student loans and scholarships. As a family of 3 we would have been x'd out of WIC, BUT because they were loans and scholarships ALL of that money was taken out of the equation. Which made us not only qualified to be on WIC, but highly qualified. If a person earns 50k and decides to spend 25k of it on school, their income isn't adjusted to 25k. But if instead that 50k is all scholarship money (like ours was) we were REQUIRED to be in school in order to receive it, their income IS adjusted. Each of us got between 15-20k in scholarships. We had about 12k a year from work. WIC counted the 12k and not the scholarships and loans.

I don't know what kind of school payments you would be expected to make. My child goes to public school and his entire breakfast and lunch costs $3.00 combined for both meals -and that's full price. If you are on free or reduced you either get both meals free or it's reduced to $1.50 for both meals. This may mean you WIC is less because you'll be buying fewer groceries for your kids since they eat at school for free or near free.

I think if anything they will give you more help by telling you about other programs you may qualify for.

No, going to school will not change anything. You get the same amount for WIC no matter what your income/situation is as long as you come below the income guidelines.

you will get the same from wic, as far as other stuff if you are in school it might help you to qualify for childcare assistance or other programs. : ) good for you momma for continuing your education! its the most important thing we can do for ourselves & our families! i have 2 years left!

It should not change your income status. It may just be for their demographics. We get WIC too. They can receive it until the month they turn 5 years old. They will not receive it that month or at any time after.
