WIDEST Disposable Diaper?

Hey Mamas!
So, my 6 month old is definitely a chunky monkey. This works for me, as I think the chunkier the better when they're little like she is. She's also a "pilates expert", and does the 100s like a champ, so I know some of it has to be her amazingly muscular core! Anyways, she goes to day care and they only accept disposable diapers there.

At home, the BumGenius and Mommy's Touch diapers seem to be well-sized enough for her chunky belly and thighs, but the Costco size 3s are just looking kind of tight around her waist. We were using Nature Babycare diapers, but they are really for babies in the 50th percentile or smaller--seriously, she outgrew their size 4s in about 2 weeks!

My question is this... What disposable offers the widest waist? The size 3 Kirkland/Costco diapers are perfect length-wise, just snug at the waist. I hate to spend the $$ on disposables since they are just icky in my opinion, but I need my girl to be comfy when she's in them.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

After having 4 children I think that the Pampers cruisers are the best diaper I have ever used. If you are looking for width I wouldn't try Huggies. Huggies are supposedly baby shaped fit, so are narrower and leak awfully! The Pampers seem to wide and the waist is very flexible and doesn't rub like some other diapers.

Have you tried Seventh Generation diapers? They fit my chubby baby great. You may just have to go up a size or two. I've learned (and heard from many a mamma) not to go by the weight ranges on the packaging.

M.,
My youngest of 3 is a big boy, much bigger than my first 2. I found the Target brand (now Up & Up) seems to accomodate his very very thick waist. My thinner babes wore Huggies and Kirkland and never went beyond size 4. My just-turned-2 is easily a size 5 and is starting to both thin out and potty train...thank goodness!I don't know what I'd do if he got bigger!

Good Luck!

When my youngest (now 8) was a baby the only diaper to fit him was Huggies. He was 10lb 4oz at birth and was a chubby baby.

I've been using Earth's Best for my 16-month-old (not a skinny child!) and the size 3 still works for him. Since you're obviously interested in more "environmentally friendly" options (good for you!) I thought I'd let you know about these. I get them from Diapers.com. Good luck!

I know Pampers and Huggies make stretchy tabs. This gives a little more give in the waste. Also both brands have a style that is little more giving that their normals daipers. Yes they are a bit more, but your little one will be more comfortable.

I would look at Safeway brand Mom to Mom premium diapers. I have purchased them for daycare a couple of times and they always seem to big on my skinny daughter, even when it is her size.

I remember with my own kids, it seemed like they constantly had to switch brands when they chunked or grew. At one point we had to switch to pull ups. I can't remember if it was a waist issue or what, but you might give them a try. They have size 4...

Have you tired Huggies? You can also get them at Costco and we found that many times the price per diaper was exactly the same as the Costco brand just that they looked more expensive because there were more in a case. Now, it's been two years since we bought diapers, but they put the price per diaper info right there on the signage so you can check. Also, the great thing with buying them there is that if they don't work, Costco will let you return them, even opened. :-)

Whoa, my twins boys are in the Costco size 3s and they are not even four months old. I'd say move up to the size 4s at least. My other son was a chunk, too and we were very quickly in the 4s. I'm using fuzzy bunz for my twins and they work well, but I used Huggies for my first son and I believe he wore size 4 for a long time. He was in size 5s by the time he was a year and a half, if I remember correctly. And now he wears size 6, though hopefully he'll be potty trained soon! I'm also using seventh generation for the twins when we use disposables and their size three is comparable to the Costco size 3.

you may need to go up a size. Huggies are almost exactly the same as the kirkland brand.

You might try to costco size 4. You can often find a sample on the costco website. They are longer, but we found that if we just secure the tabs a little lower, it works fine. We too use cloth diapers almost exclusively, but we have a box of Costco ones for the day when we use more diapers than expected or forgot to do the laundry. :)
