I need help with our dog. We moved into an apartment after our house sold. We are waiting for the new one to be completed. The dog is pooping and urinating in the apartment no matter how much we take her out.

Help please. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

I agree with the crate idea. It might be hard at first for him to get used to since it does not sound like you used one before, but stick with it, be consistent and eventually he'll not only get used to it, but he'll think of it as his own little home.

You may have an issue with the carpet or rodents. I know this is not what you want to hear, but even though the apartment complex may have cleaned your carpets, that does not get into the pad. Any previous pets or rodents that inhabited your apartment will cause what you are talking about.

I would suggest that any time your pup goes in the apartment, clean it up with vinegar. This helps remove the odor and helps keep the pup from reusing that area.

If this doesn't help, I would suggest you talk to your vet about behavior problems and stress on your animal. Your pup may need something to take the edge off until you get into your new home.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this, but as with children, it is an adjustment for your four legged babies too.

Good luck!!!!

You can rent a steam cleaner and use vinigar in the mechine. This will remove all oder's from your pet and previous pets. The smell can be bad so choose a day that you can open the windows. The vingar will remove the smell and keep your dog from going on it again, and if you do every space that can be reached the dog wont have any other option but to go out side. The crate Idea is a good one but a hard one to stick with. Use the crate for a few days and then do the steam cleaner, and contiune using the crate. Give it about 2 weeks, if neither solves the problems go see your vet. Hope this helps, Good luck and let us know

Definitely get him a crate. Moving is a scary and confusing time for dogs, and there definitely may still be smells in the carpet. I assume he was housebroken before the move? I'd get him a crate and then each time you let him out of the crate, take him out immediately. Any time you catch him going in the house, of course take him out immediately. And should you find poop in the house, pick it up and take it outside, and him with you. This lets him know it belongs outside (even if he already knows). Good luck!

I agree with everything said so far. And I would crate your dog anytime you are away, even if you're just in the shower. The crate might make him feel more secure, because all this is new and scary to him. Dogs shouldn't poop/pee in their crates, so as soon as you return, let him out of the crate and take him right outside to do his business.

Crate him at night, too, when you sleep. Make sure you include a favorite towel or blanket and toy or snugglie in the crate.
