Start giving her Baby's Bliss "Gripe Water" regularly and it will ease the gas and the discomfort - I promise!!
My 6 month old daughter is still gassy. (Not colicky, just has to pass gas) She doesn't ever sleep more than 4.5 hours and is still getting me up twice a night to feed her. Admittedly, she weighs less than 10 lbs, but I have to go back to work in 2 weeks and I am sooooo tired. Other than the gas drops and burping her more (she is nursing and eats solids twice a day) is there anything I can do to increase her sleep intervals at night and keep her from passing gas? or do I just need to be patient until she puts on some weight. I am really really tired.
Hi Everyone,
She is sleeping a lot better now. It just seemed like she needed to grow some. She is 7.5 months old now, crawling up stairs, pulling up to a stand and sitting by herself. She is still small, in the 25 percentile, but perfectly normal. Her naps are getting longer, her gas is easing up, and she is sleeping better. I think I just really had to wait it out and know that "this too shall pass".

Have you ever heard of Gripewater? Little Tummies makes one kind and they sell it at Babies R Us. I prefer the brand Babysbliss. I order it from drugstore.com and it is AMAZING STUFF! It immediately relives hiccups, gets rid of gas, colic, etc. It is all natural and consists of fennel and ginger- which relaxes their belly.
Watch your diet if you are nursing her, or add some formula to help. I would call the doctor about her weight though. Sounds like she is waking up because she is hungry. Do you feed her on demand or every set # of hours?
Tiny babies have tiny tummies. Your little one can only hold so much food in her tummy, and when that is digested, she needs to eat again. It would be unreasonable to expect her to sleep through the night. Six months and less than ten pounds? You should feed her anytime she'll eat.
I co-sleep with my babies. This keeps me from having to get out of bed in the middle of the night. You can purchase a co-sleeper very inexpensively...they are like little cribs that attach to the side of your bed and have only three rails. That way baby can sleep next to you but not be completely in your bed. It may help you get more sleep.
Meanwhile, I would say wait until she's a bit bigger before you expect her to go 8 hours without food. I know that you are tired...we've all been there...but sleepless nights are just part of motherhood sometimes. Hang in there. It gets better, and it IS worth it!
I am not sure what your diet conset of. If you are nursing is affecting her. Then when or if you do start formula they make one that is for colic babies. My sister had that problem with both her kids. And she had to ask the dr. and she gave her some drops for his bottles. It helped a lot. Then she had a cut out spicy foods, pepper all together, brocolie, etc. So it would not affect him.
I would be more concerned about her weight. Have you talked to about her weight gain?
Try Fennel Tea. You can buy it at Sun Harvest or Whole Foods. It is completely safe. My mother used this to treat colic for both me and my brother. I also used this for my three children(5,3,2).
It is used to help with digestion, so I think this would work for you, even if it is just to relieve her gas. To make it you prepare it like you would tea and add a tiny bit of sugar so that she will want to drink it. You won't need to feed her more than 2-4oz. a day. You should give her this right before bed or whenever the symptoms start. You probably won't have to do this more than a couple times and it should stop.
Hyland's is the answer. They make the best natural stuff for kids. You can buy it over the counter at United or Wal-Mart. They makes stuff for gas and for teething too. Anyway, someone once recomended this to me, and I think it works great!!!
Was she little at birth? She "should" have almost doubled her birthweight by now - but that's a loose guideline.
Have you been nursing exclusively (other than the solids)? If you have, and are, you might try a hypoallergenic diet for both of you - no wheat, no dairy, lay off the beans and broccoli - see if her gas abates, sleep improves, and she gains weight. If she does, she might have either a gluten or a dairy sensitivity. My older son had both.
You might also try getting used to nursing while you're laying down. I ended up keeping mine in the room with me, putting them down to sleep the first time, then at feeding we just went to sleep together (MAKE CERTAIN TO GET NET BEDRAILS).
Good luck.
Good luck.
I believe that her gass will pass ( no pun ). Patience my son also had simular problem around he turned a year. He had colic, gas and constipation...gass drops, warm cloths, try laying baby on her back genetle bend knees bring up into chest lightly causing presure on lower tummie and sometimes this helps them pass gas. We asked ped doc' he said try low iron, pro sobee, regular, with lipids, then about 9 months went ahead to whole milk add just little water...to be honest they all worked about the same.
I just had to be patient and try to just take it one day at a time...if you drink coffee might be a good idea for little extra perk....
Good Luck
