Winter Wonderland Party Games?

Some ideas I pulled from the web:

We played Freeze Dance where the kids danced and jumped around, to music and when the music stopped they had to freeze. If a kid did not freeze, they were out.

We also played Cold Snowman, which is hot potato with a stuffed snowman for the kids and the adults wanted to play too.

Other games to play, Cold Feet; how many socks can you put on one foot in 30 seconds, and Snowball Throw; how many crumpled white paper balls can you toss into a bucket or basket in 30 seconds.

How about a "musical sleds" instead of musical chairs? You could get those red disk sleds, one for each child. Set them up (minus one, of course) on the floor/grass and start some music. When the music stops, the kids have to jump onto the nearest vacant sled. The one who doesn't make it to an empty sled is "out." Continue until there's a winner. And you could give the sleds away as a favor.

You could have them build igloos, houses, snowmen, etc. with marshmallows and toothpicks!

So if you're stuck indoors:
*Memory game: you have a tray of 20 or so items, you uncover it, cover it back up then have the kids write down as many things as they can remember. The one w/the most wins. Have a few prizes if there's a tie.
*Freeze tag
*We used to put a potato in nylons, tie it around our waist then try to knock a coke bottle over that's standing on the ground.
*Go fish: tie a piece of string to a light pole. At the end of the clip you tie a clothes pin then kids go fish over the sofa. You are behind the sofa and clip little presents for them to "fish" up.
*You put about 6 2-Litre bottles of soda together in a triangle & the kids try to ring the necks w/little circle rings (plastic shower curtain rings work).
*Bean bag toss into a circle or spare bike tire.
*Put several tupperware bowls grouped together on the floor and they try to throw quarters into the bowls for a prize. Think "games at the fair".

when my kids were 5, they loved to play hide and seek, also you could hide a party favor for each child and when they find one its theirs to keep, but when they find one their turn to look is over. They might also like an exciting (short) story read to them that goes along with your theme. When I was teaching the 5 year olds at church I would read them the bible story and then I had clothes I had bought at garage sales and then we dress up like characters in the story and played the story out, it sure helped them to remember the story next week when I ask what was the story about last sunday, ( they loved it). The most fun is the memories you will make, and just taking the time to spend with here and being patient with all the partying of 5 year olds. Take plenty of pictures, to help her remember the fun. enjoy

I made a winter tic tac toe board and made bags to toss. I took a clear plastic liner and made the board. I used an blue permanent marker to make the lines...kind of a med blue that looked icy to me. I took ziplock baggies and put artificial snow in them (craft stores will have this). I also put a small disc that added some weight. I put X's and O's on the baggies with my blue marker. Then you play tic tac toe.....the kids stand at a line and throw the bags to make tic tac toe.

Penquin relay. 2 teams and have the children walk like a penguin the catch is place a tennis ball between their feet if it falls they start all over...

For summer if you have a small wading pool freeze water in a pan and put a little trinket in it and have the kids guess how fast the will melt or do a race with them...do enough for each kiddo to get a trinket. or use ice cubes race the flat pan frozen ones across the pool the possiblities are endless. make a polar bear on posterboard and make scarves......have a pin the scarf on the polar bear. ohhhhh the ideas keep coming

With such a bad winter we had, I cant imagine having anything to do with winter. Sorry. I say lets go swimming or to the park.
