For the past two months I have gotten sore sports on both sides of my tongue they become very very pain ful and I treat them with Motrin and Liquid Oral gel. They go away or at least I dont feel them and then they start hurting again (with in 2 to 3 days of no pain). I went to the dentist and he asked all kinds of questions like, did it bite my tongue, do I play with my tongue. Have I take some new meds or vitamins. And to answer all of them its no. I changed my toothbursh, tooth paste, mouth warsh. I cut out every food that caused acid and quit taking my vitamins. I still have the sores! They go away and come back in the same spots. I went to the dentist, and he took pictures and didnt really want to remove my wisdom teeth, but after asking me the above questions and having two people looking at it they and looking at exrays. They have come to conlusion that it is two bottom wisdom teeth.Becuas when I swallow the spots rub them, they dont have any rough spots on them and they aint cracked (my teeth) I am to have them removed on Monday. A friend of mine wants me to get a second opioin becuase her mom works in a dentist office for several years (keep in mind she hasnt seem my exrays or mouth) and thinks it is a bacterial infection and wants me to get a second opinon. What do you think. The doctor asked tons of questions about my diet and life style and allergic reactions, and got two other people look at it. I am in pain right now, and my tongue is swollen because they are arrgrivated. I have one on each side of my tongue perfectly in line with my bottom wisdom teeth. What do yall think?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay I had them pulled. I prayed about it and felt really at peace with it, so I went ahead and had it done yesterday. They came out really easily with no stitches and the left side has no pain at all, i got out a mirror just to make shure he pulled them. I feel really good, and no tongue sores!!! Yea!! I appreachate all your input, I tried to get in to another doctor to get a second opinon but i couldnt, so I took it as a sign that I didnt need to waste the money to get a second opinion (I dont have Insurance so it come out of pocket). Thank you again.

Have you tried taking Folic Acid? I used to have canker sores all the time and I started taking 1 folic acid everyday and they went away. Now, when I start feeling one coming on, I take a folic acid tablet and it really helps! Good luck, nothing is worse than mouth pain!

OK.....I guess I would just have two questions for you..How long have you had your widsom teeth?...and why would it just be causing problems with your tongue now? Sounds to me like your dentist can't figure it out, but just wants to pull your teeth to make his money and see if it works. Maybe your tongue is swollen for another reason all together, which is why it is rubbing up against your teeth that have more than likely been serving you well for a while.

Best of luck to you, it is no fun to have pain in your mouth.

Hi C.,

sounds like your dentist really took the effort to look into your problem. So he is probably right. But why not get another opinion? I know you had already a second opinion by the others he showed the x-rays. But it is so final to have them pulled.

Good luck with the pain...

If you feel uncomfortable with your dentist's opinion, you should definitely get a second opinion. However, I've had the exact same thing. My wisdom teeth only grew partially in, so every once in a while, they'd shift and when that happened, I'd have the same problem with it scraping on my tongue. It was really painful and I did have my wisdom teeth removed. I've had no problems since then.

Most wisdom teeth do not come in perfectly straight even though it may APPEAR that way. It's possible that you do have an infection, under those wisdom teeth. I would get a second opinion just to be on the safe side because sometimes lesions in the mouth can be MUCH more serious.

Hi C., I just saw your post and was wondering who you used to have your wisdom teeth pulled. I will be needing to have mine done before too long and I'm such a big old chicken plus I don't have dental insurance as well. IF you don't mind could I ask how much it cost you? Thanks so much and I'm glad you are doing so much better!!!!

Because the spots are exactly in line with your wisdom teeth, it does sound as if they're to blame somehow. I also had painful spots on my tongue (like canker sores, I guess) last fall, but it turned out to be allergy/dietary. Once I cleaned up my diet they went away. But they weren't always in the same spot; they were all over, and more toward the front.

I would definitely get a second opinion, though -- I mean, why not? If the pain is bearable for another week or so, anyway... Good luck!

I think you should have the wisdon teeth removed as planned. Especially since they are directly on both sides of the tongue against your wisdom teeth. That's what I would do.
