Wondering Average Hourly Pay for PT Nanny?

My child is 2-1/2, and I'm wondering what the average pay is for a pt nanny in the Lakeview area. I'd look for about 24 hours a week (3 days/8hrs). Some people I've interviewed said $11 for 1 child, some say no less than $15! What is the going rate to make sure I'm not getting cheated but being fair?

Until recently, I was paying $10/hr for a PT nanny for one child in Andersonville. I'm guessing Lakeview should be pretty comparable. The range from nannies I interviewed was $10-16/hr for one child. I'm now paying $13/hr for two. Hope this helps.

Hi A.,

I share a nanny with a woman in Bucktown. I'm in Norridge. I pay her 13 an hour for my daughter and the other woman pays her 15 an hour for twins. They are all 18 months old. I hope this helps. Good nannies are hard to find. You can always add "perks" as time goes by and you get to know each other. For example, our nanny sometimes brings her children with her to our home. That way she doesn't have to pay a sitter and our daughter has playmates. Win win.

My PT nanny (2 days a week, 8 hrs/day) started at $11 when my son was 4 months old but I increased her rate to $12 after interviewing another sitter for an extra day (which my sitter couldn't do) who was getting paid $12. This sitter had more experience but was just not someone I'd leave my child with. So, I figured my sitter deserved more.

It's now been almost a year with my sitter and I will likely raise her rate to $13. She deserves it. She's wonderful.

So, I guess I could say that in my experience between $11 and $15 is a good range. I would base it on experience and what you're asking her to do. Will she be making meals? Driving your child, etc.

Hope that helps!

I pay $13.50 an hr. I also get a very detailed written report of the day. Daily outing are a must. Arts & crafts, along with educational programs. Get what you pay for. Early child developement is crucial to a well rounded child. Above all, LISTEN to your child. Make sure they are happy & love the new nanny. Their smiles will tell all. Good Luck.

$15 dollars an hour for one child, too high!!!

Going rate is $10-$12 an hour for average babysitting services. If you are including housekeeping, laundry, errands, or any extras then I can understand the extra amount.

Late nights and early start times could also contribute to the higher hourly rate.

Good luck!

If the nanny has a lot of experience or comes to you through a service, $12.00 an hour might be a good place to start for the care of one child.

We pay our part-time nanny in the south loop $12/hr. She watches my 18 month old 1 day/week. She also watches another 2 kids 2 days per week and charges the same $12/hr.

I paid $10 for a newborn. It seems that $12 is going rate in our area for more than one child. I live in Sauganash/Edgebrook (northwest). I am currently looking for pt nanny and would love to see if we're in the price ballpark with posts you've received. Please reply, if you've time.

We had our nanny for 10.5 hours a day for 3 days a week and we paid her $11/hr. The other family she worked for the other 2 days a week paid her $12/hr. When the 2 babies were together, we paid her $15/hr.

I recently got a new nanny and did a lot of research into nannies costs, etc. The average for one child is $10-$12/hour (I pay $11 for mine). $15/hour is for two kids and still on the high side. You can find a lot of great nannies for $10-$12/hour. Good luck.

I live near the Lakeview area and have found that whether the nanny is full or part time really doesn't have any impact on hourly pay. You can find well qualified nannies and babysitters for the going rate of $10 for one child, $12 for 2. I think the highest going rate in this area is $12 for one child. I have two children (ages 1 and 3) and we pay our nanny $11/hour for 29 to 35 hours per week. (The 3 year old is in school and comes and goes so it was easier to do $11 than keep track of how many kids for how many hours, etc).
Hope that helps!

We live in lakeview too and have a pt time nanny (3 days per week, 8-10 hours per day). We pay her 11 dollars an hour. Because my schedule tends to fluctuate we decided to just pay her a "sallary" and then if it works greatly in her favor she gives us a few weekend nights "for free". Hope this makes sense. Oh, I should have told you too that our son is 5.5 months old.
