Won't Drink from a Sippy Cup

My daughter turned one on November 6th. I have been trying since she was 6 months old to drink from a sippy cup but she refuses. The only cup she'll take is one with a straw but she only takes a few sips. How can I take her off the bottle if she's not drinking much at all from a cup? I have tried holding out on a bottle to see if she would take milk from her cup but it hasn't worked yet. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

What can I do next?

My nephew just turned one on Nov 12th and has the same issue. He loves his bottle. He sometimes likes Munckin sippy cups (like the Dora/Diego ones- they have a very wide piece to drink from) and Avent sippy cups (the ones that you just change the nipple to a soft sippy cup type top- if that makes sense). The Avent ones are very similar to a bottle. Sometimes it just finding the one that they like, unfortunately no one wants to spend $ on something they will not use.

It's not a bad thing to not use a sippy cup. I read somewhere that it's actually good that they skip the sippy cup. Maybe you can go straight to a regular cup.

Just keep trying, don't force it. Some children just prefer the comfort a bottle nipple gives. Has nothing to do with development. You may want to try another type of sippy cup. They also have bottles that don't have a nipple, try that. Good luck.

i agree with the post that said try to go straight to a regular cup. my daughter was about 9mos when she started with a sippy cup and i had to use the cheaper ones w/ a soft spout so that it was like she was still drinking from a bottle. my son didn't take a cup until he was almost 2 (or older than 2)and still took a bottle of water at night until he was about 2.5. then i took the bottles (except for 1) and thru them away. when he asked for it i opened the cabinet and told him they were all gone. and then he started drinking from a sippy cup. i know that it's a little early yet for your daughter but when she starts pre-school (if she does) then they will expect her to drink out of a regular cup anyways once she's 3. it's hard to transition from a sippy cup to a regular cup bc they are always acting like its a sippy cup w/ the lid on it and sloshing it everywhere. i would just let it be for right now and let her just drink from you cup if she wants or ask her if she wants to have a drink from your cup. they will normally want to have whatever you want. and just go from there

My son also didn't like a hard sippy cup and drank from a straw and even directly from a cup once he got the hang if it. I know many people who have tried multiple cups until they found one that worked. She'll do it eventually just keep trying! Good luck!
