Hi Mom's!
I am in a very bad situation right now and don't know where else to turn to. I am a single mom to 4 yr old son Karson that is on the Autism spectrum with Sensory Integration Disorder. I am having a hard time finding work that is flexible with my schedule so I can take Karson to ST and OT.

I have no gas, no money and no food. It's really starting to get me down.

If anyone has any suggestion please feel free to let me know know.

I have over 20 yrs of childcare experience from preemies through teenagers, multiples. I am cpr/first aid certified, I am almost a certified cna( my last day is Sat and my state exam is 8/15/09) I am a certifed night nanny, certified medical assistant.

My passions are helping others, making a difference and the love that I have for children, elders, special needs and the disabled.

I have experience with projectile acid reflux, colic, croup, rsv. autism, sensory integration disorder, speech and motor skills delays and adhd.

Thank you in advance,

Blessings,

What can I do next?

File for government assistance! TANF has lots of benefits, also call 211 from your home phone, they can help set you up with all kinds of things! I have been researching things like this as my whole household is about to be unemployeed!

Here is what I have found
211 This is a referral line that will refer to charities in their area that can provide them with whatever they are needing - financial assistance, food, clothing, etc. All charities in N. Texas serve people based on their zip code

Go here to apply for state benefits:https://www.yourtexasbenefits.com
This will cover medical, food and possible TANF (temporary aid for needy families).

I would not hesitate to apply for TANF & food stamps! Here is a link. I think you may be able to apply online. I know you can request an application be sent to your home & it should get to you within just a few days. Fill it out & mail it in. You can even request a telephone interview, if you're unable to make it to the office for the requisite interview.

As for a job, have you considered waiting tables? Schedules are pretty flexible in that there are a couple different shifts to work, lunch & dinner, & you can always pick up extra shifts from the other servers when you need extra cash.

Good luck!

Calab Incorporated is always hiring. They work with special needs individuals. The number is ###-###-####. They have direct care staff and supportive home living staff. The shifts vary. You should call and ask bout the different shifts for both positons. Also I know your child has no form of mental retardation but if you place hime on the Home and Community Based Services waiting list you would eventually have a lot of free and realiable assistance which you and your child would benefit. Contact your local mental health and mental retardation center.

We have a wonderful respite program at my church, Custer Road United Methodist. With your skills and interests I would recommend you call Judy who is in charge of the program. She can be reached through the church. She might have suggetions of places in which you can apply for a job. Also, have you thought about being a nanny to special needs child? I had a friend at work whose daughter did that. In addition, I work from home as a marketing person for an international wellness company - if this might be something you would be interested in. The hours are flexible and the work is fun and I help others.
