I am using jillians 30 day shred, im on day 8, its kicking my butt but i already see a difference in my face and stomach
Do you have one that you love? I need to add something to my day to really get some sweat and movement. I know everyone says the classes are more fun and motivating but that is just not an option right now. Im home with my 5 year old and she loves to exercise with me. Im thinking about the Zumba for the Wii- my friend loves it.
Just read some pasts posts and looks like the majority vote is for Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. Anyone else use this one?
What are your suggestions?
As always- Thanks moms!
So I am starting with the 30 day shred- its only day 2 and I am SORE!!! Thanks to my diet change over the past 2 weeks and some exercise I am down 7 pounds and hoping this dvd will make that number rise!! I may try out the P90X after I get a little more adjusted to workouts. Love the library idea but unfortunately we live in a small town and the DVD section at our library is only a shelf or two.
Thanks for all the inputs.

The best thing is to be changing up your routine regularly. So I would suggest that you go to the library to check out DVDs. It's free and you can change frequently. And if you find one you really love, then you can buy it.
I vote for anything on the Wii because it is fun, however I have not gotten very solid results. I have heard good things about Jillian but I have one that was real popular about 10+ years ago but I get GREAT results from it and my kids love to do it with me. I bought about 7 dvds of Billy Blanks Tae Bo. It's fun, easy, and you certainly work up a sweat. You can choose from beginner through expert levels and they range from a half hour to an hour ad a half.
Enjoy!
Jillian Michaels irritates me too...but I like the 30 Day Shred. I can feel it all over after the 20 minute workout. I like the modifications, the movements are easy to get, and you can easily adjust the intensity to how you feel that day.
However, I do like the Zumba too. Just requires a little more coordination.
If you have a wii, the Zumba game is fun. They have 20 minute "classes" on it. I actually really like Just Dance for the Wii. I have the second one. There is a nonstop shuffle option on it so you can dance for 30-40 minutes straight if you want. It's fun to listen to the music and try to match the moves and gets your heart rate up. At least, I'm sweating my butt off after 40 minutes. I do other things too like the P90X videos and run. But when I'm feeling unmotivated to work out, playing Just Dance 2 feels like less of a chore than a normal video. Hope you find something you love!
ETA- I've used the 30 Day Shred and I didn't like it. I didn't care for Jillian Michaels so I couldn't force myself to do it. But I know a lot of people do like her.
I used the 30-day Shred for about 9 months. Just varied the routines and upped the weights. It gives a good variety of workouts, but I found it didn't do much for my body.
I've heard great things about Zumba but I lack any kind of coordination. :)
If you're looking for a challenge, I would totally recommend Turbofire (DVD). Chalene Johnson is the best motivator out there (I've done 2 of her programs now, as well as P90X). The music she has is awesome (my 5 and 2 yr old dance while I work out!), she gives you a schedule so you know what to do each day, and I've seen great results from it. Some people easily burn 600 cals in a 45 mins workout!
I don't like Jillian's, very repetative, they're all the same moves, I get bored quickly. I like Yumi Lee, Jenette Jenkins, Denis Austin, Karen Voight... much better. I get them free at the library, that way you get new dvd every week or whatever and stay motivated.
I use the WII fit. It is wonderful, although since school started, I haven't had the chance to get on but it gives you a report on body fat, weight, etc. I love it.
Anything with Jackie Warner is challenging. I usually catch her sessions on cable TV (on demand) Exercise TV under health and fitness.
I think the key is variety. I like the library idea, and I rent them at Blockbuster Online to try them out before I buy them.
Zumba is really fun. I also love the series called Hip Hop Body Shop. Teaches you dance sequences, and you get an awesome work out!
I use both the 30 Day Shred and Zumba. I really like them both!
I've gone to zumba classes, and they wear me out but I really like them! I hope the Wii version will be just as good for you. You won't have the impetus of having other people doing all the crazy stuff around you, but you can still enjoy it.
I've liked some of Jillian Michaels' dvds, and I have a few of Leslie Sansone's walking ones, from the basic walking to the jogging.
But it's really a matter of what state of health you're in and what you (and your little girl!) like to do. Are there any exercise dvds in your public library that you could check out for a test run? Remember - at least, I have to tell myself this - that getting a dvd won't give you exercise - it can only help you to get it yourself.
We have "Just Dance" and Just Dance II" for the Wii. We love it! It doesn't feel like exercise and my girls do it with me. I also LOVE dance dance Revolution although it took me awhile before I was coordinated enough for it to actually be a workout.
I did the 30 day Shred for about 2 wks. It is an awesome workout but it was too hard on my knees. I was determined to stick it out but I went to my brother's new house one day and he did not have a railing and I thought I may have to sit coming down the stairs. I didn't but my sister in-law ask if I was alright... I thought this is ridiculous, stopped doing the DVD and my knees got better :-)
love Cathe Friedrich. VERY challenging.
I too like Jillians Michaels 30 day shred. If you like Yoga, Bob Harper has a workout Yoga one that is really good. It is a fitness yoga and you will definitely feel it when you are done, but is is an hour long. We also do netflix through our Wii and they have lots of the 10 minute solutions on there which are great when you are limited for time. Netflix is only $9/mo. and great for the whole family!
