I don't know if my body is still regulating itself from having my son (7 months ago) but OMG I'VE NEVER FELT PAIN LIKE THIS IN MY *LIFE*. Some of these menstrual cramps are hitting me so hard and fast, it's honestly worse than contractions and labor pain. WORSE THAN CONTRACTIONS AND LABOR PAIN!! Yeah, I said it!! The last few that were really bad, I literally had to bite my lip and swallow my screams. I didn't sleep a bit last night. I've never had cramps before, and I have a ridiculously high pain tolerance, I don't know WHAT is going on here. It comes and goes. I've been taking tylenol and applying a heating pad, but lord help me if I have to move... even if I'm not moving, some of these are just SO severe... I put a call into my doctor and I'm waiting to hear back, he's in surgery until 10 (which means more like 11:30)... any thoughts in the meantime? Has anyone gone through this before? I have 3 children, and never in my life have I experienced this magnitude of pain... ever.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

To answer Moonfrogs question, they've been getting worse with each period since my son's been born. Ugh. Ouch.

As a teen my cramps were BAD and I had them most of the month. I was put on birth control which helped but they were still bad two or three days each month. After having my son, they were much more mild. Since having my daughter, they are horrible again...worse than before. It makes doing anything (laying, sitting, and heaven forbid trying to do anything else!). I used Midol Complete and a heating pad. It helped...wasn't great but much better. My doctor just started giving me Naproxin (prescription) and that works better.

Sounds like you have something else going on. I have more severe pain during my periods since having my kids but not anything that bad. Just get in to see the doc, they will figure it out. If you want too, see if you can talk to the nurse or PA at his office and see if they can help so you don't have to wait until 11:30.

Good luck!

I had severe cramps the couple weeks after my son was born (he is 8 mo) that were seriously like labor pains. I was curled in a ball crying on my couch. My doctor told me the cramps get worse after each kid, he's my second. It was also worse after breastfeeding. Now with my monthly period the cramps are painful, but not quite that bad, they have lessened since the birth. Have you had these every month since he was born, or is this the first time? It seems strange you would be in so much pain this many months after the birth, it doesn't seem quite normal, especially if its all of a sudden.

I am glad you called the doctor, they need to check that nothing else is going on, but it could be it is just going to be something new to add to your menstrual cycle. I have always had cramps like what you are experiencing. I drink chamomile tea and or use a heating pad. Use your birth breathing skills to get through the pain..

There have been times, when I have actually had to be prescribed pain pills or muscle relaxers so that I could at least get to work. Usually they do not last any longer than 24 hours.

When I was in labor, I could not even feel my contractions in the beginning. My water broke and I kept saying there were no contractions, even though on the monitor.. they were going very strong.. Once they got really tough, I forgot to even ask for pain meds, I was so used to the pain..

Maybe this will pass for you. I am sending you good thoughts.

You definitely need to go to the doctor. You shouldn't be in that much pain. I will tell you, your period can change post baby. Mine are much lighter but my PMS/cramps are worse than ever! Still, pain worse than labor is NOT okay.

dang! definitely see the doc. it may just be that you're stuck with ever-worsening periods (mine went the opposite way, awful as a teen but better after kids) but the severity of your pain for sure means you should rule out any funny business in your bits.
birth control pills helped me.

Over the past year my period cramps are getting worse every month... My dr gave me a prescription for 800mg of Ibuprofren, that helps... My sister is the same way. The older she gets (she's 37, I'm 32) the worse are cramps are getting.. I also use a heating pad which doesn't always help... I'm interested to see others suggestions..

Definitely check it out with dr but start taking aleve 2 days before or 600-800 mg of ibupofen every 8 hours ( with food and no more than 3200 mg per day, or can really irritate ur stomach). You need antiinflammatories rather than tylenol. It also helps if u keep ahead of the pain rather than playing catch up. I also use those heat wrap things or a heating pad. Hugs! Cramps suck!

I had this pain before and I was having a miscarriage. Also the same can happen with an etopic pregnancy. I have endometriosis and I have to say I've been in tremendous pain, but never like when I had a miscarriage. Also when you do have endometriosis pregnancy helps the pain not make it worse. Not necessarily what is going on with you but if you are clotting and have a lot of blood you may want to see if you should go to the hospital, especially if the normal pain meds over the counter aren't working and this is not normal for you. I say if it doesn't pass soon go get checked out right away! Good luck, and I hope you feel better!!

My friend has this kind of pain every time she goes off her birth control pills. She calls screaming in agonizing pain. After a day or so, her body must regulate to the change in hormones because the pain goes away. My guess is that you have not adjusted to a hormonal change after having your child. My cramps were pretty bad at first. I would call your doc just to make sure nothing else is going on. He will probably do some tests just to make sure. You don't say whether or not you are using hormonal bc, so that may play a role too. I hope you feel better.

Definitely go to your dr. Your body is saying something is going on specifically in you cevical area. It may be nothing, but if it's a cyst or the start of endometriosis, I'd have it taken care of right away. I have a high pain tolerance too, but right now, you don't have your pregnancy hormones to help you through this. That's why it hurts worse, and pain sucks! Take care of YOU, sweet one. You have a lot of people depending on you. Good luck!

It sounds like there is definitely something wrong. Menstrual cramps should not be worse than labor pain!! You poor thing! I would def get in to see your doc. It sounds like you're probably developing PMDD (which I have and it SUCKS!!!). My nurse practitioner prescribed me Zoloft to treat it and it has helped enormously!! It also has the side benefit of working as an appetite supressant and helps me to sleep better as well. Ask your doctor if it could be PMDD. You could also be suffering from ovarian cysts which your doc can check for as well. I hope you get this figured out, periods are a big enough pain in the a$$ without super bad cramps on top of it!!
