Strong 2nd for emergency appt or ER.

These infections aren't a joke. My friend's mum died last year waiting 3 days for an appt. Infection went into her bloodstream and brain. She was fine, then collapsed, stroked out, was braindead before the EMTs could get there, and was finally unplugged a couple days later. She was only in her 40's.

J.,

You sound like me last Friday. The pain was so bad that I immediately called my dentist. I don't tolerate pain. I'm glad I didn't either after reading some of your posts. I went in, he did an x-ray and sent me to the endodontist. I had a tooth infection that needed a root canal. The endo gave me nitros and novacane to ease the pain while she shot up the tooth with antibiotics. She sealed it with dental putty and I go back this coming Monday for the rest of the work on the tooth.

I feel so much better after going in. Please don't wait--go in and get this taken care of...TODAY!:)

Hope you feel better soon!

This is why dentists can be called any time on an emergency basis.
Do not wait - call/go to dentist NOW.
The longer an infection has time to set in, the longer it will take to clear up.
If you had a broken leg would you just live with the pain for a week?
Your teeth and jaws are bones and the pain is telling you they need help right now.

I am sure it is an infection.
You need to get in tomorrow.
If they can't see you then go to the ER.

I am sorry to say this to you but if you don't get it
taken care of right away then you could have a larger problem on your hands. It could even be life threatening.

An infection in your mouth can go to your brain or your heart.

Please take care and I will be praying for you.

you say you think you can handle the pain until next week, but personally, I would call the dentist first thing tomorrow and try to get an emergency
appointment. You may need a filling in the tooth or more work on it.

A natural way to lessen the pain is using a tea bag, after making some tea, and placing it on the tooth or teeth and gum area. I think it's the
tannic acid that helps

Also Arnica Montana (a homeopathic med)....little pellets that you dissolve under your tongue.... is good for trauma pain.
You can get it at Whole Foods or other health food stores.

Good luck with it.......but I wouldn't want to wait a week with tooth pain.

are you nuts, woman? call your dentist THIS MINUTE! toothache remedies are for low-grade aches, not this degree of pain. you've probably got an abscess and it needs to be seen TODAY. you don't want a mouth infection to spread. protect yourself and your heart. go TODAY!

I todo aspirin and/ or ibuprofen when I had a bad toothache. If it hurts that bad you might want to try and get in earlier. I also waited for almost a week and it retracted pain into my bottom teeth. Not fun. Sorry hope you feel better soon.

for quick fixes late at night. After warm water wash put a little vanilla extract on it it will give you short term relief. They say the one with almond is better but I've only used original. Also hanging upside down off the bed will relief the pressure on teh tooth. of course do not do that to long or you'll have a headache also.

I have heard that putting cloves on a toothache will reduce a toothache. I don't know for sure but I know that really hurts.

Kim just reminded me, by the time I went to the ER, the pain was all over the left side of my mouth upper/lower and my temp was about 102. Don't wait girl!

J.,

Get to the emergency room NOW....you may have an infection or an abcess. They will give you anti-biotics and pain medication. If you can not do this (and you should even if you have to go to a county hospital...but no hospital should refuse you).....my dentist gave me a combination of two tylenol and three ibuprofane....HOWEVER, I do not recommend this until you actually get a medical opinion.

When I did go to the ER, they gave me an RX pain medication....it sort of made me sick because it was strong. I called the doctor and she said, "when you take this medication, you should lay down for two hours". So if you do get medication from ER, make sure they explain how it is to be taken.

Sorry you are in pain...they could not remove my tooth until I took the antibiotic for 10 days because of the infection.

Take care...and keep us posted.

Blessings...

This just happened to me over Thanksgiving. I took lots of over the counter meds and nothing helped. I laid in bed and did some breathing exercises that would help briefly. Finally I took my daughter's vicodin (she had her wisdom teeth pulled earlier this year) - that helped. When I was able to go to the dentist the next week, turns out I needed a root canal. My dentist was great - didn't feel a thing and all the pain stopped (and I HATE dentists!)

You are going to need more time at the dentist than just for a teeth cleaning visit. It sounds like you might need a root canal. You need to get in there as soon as possible and get it taken care of. Waiting for your visit is not fair to yourself or to expect the dentist to take care of your dental emergency in the time allotted to clean your teeth. I used to schedule at my dentist's office. My dentist used to recommend tylenol 3 for very short term relief.
