Would You Get a Tummy Tuck?

I always tease my husband and ask him when I am going to get my belly fixed and get new bubbies (Said in my Theresa voice lol) and he pretty much just rolls his eyes and thinks Im crazy.

Last night out of the blue he said "How much would it be to get your stomach fixed?" Part of me was estatic that he is considering it, but I dont know if I could ever really go through with it. I worry about the dangers and the recovery. I asked him what made him say that and he said "I feel bad for you, you had 3 of my babies and I want you to be happy."

My stomach is wrecked, im not kidding. I have had 3 almost 9 lb babies and Im 5'3 and at my "usual" weight is 115. My stomach has been stretched to the max and its actually damaged. No amount of working out and being healthy is going to fix it. I had my first baby when I was 21 and have been hiding my stomach ever since. My husband is the only one that sees it and I even try to hide it as much as possible from him. I literally hate it.

Im about to make an appointment for a consultation, but I just dont know. Part of me is like I am being WAY to vain and need to just get over it, but it hurts my heart that my belly sucks so bad and I just want it fixed.

Is there any advice or insight anyone can give me on plastic surgery. I want to do a lot of research, but you know how researching stuff on the internet is, you cant believe anything.

What can I do next?

Pre-kids, I'd say no. After 3 kids, HELL YES! My belly needs all the help it can get ;-) Boobs too...I would get implants in a heartbeat, since puberty & 3 pregnancies haven't done anything for my A cups.

Getting one on November 1st! :)

I'm in the same condition, my tummy is a saggy mess, despite working out 5 days a week.

I've gone to 3 consultations with different doctors, and found one that I'm confident in. The medi-spa where I'm doing it offers interest free financing for up to 24mos through a couple of methods, so we're doing that. It'll come out to about $400/month over 2 yrs.

My SIL had one and looks like a million bucks, although she did say (and research confirms) and recovery SUCKS. I'm prepared for that.
I'm also prepared to fit into my clothes again. :)

I have done it. I loved it. Looks great and scar is not visible to anyone but myself and hubby. Recovery is a PAIN. I was bed ridden for 2 weeks with ocassional bathroom trips. Then you have to wear a brace and still sore for weeks but it was SOOO worth it. I was cut hip to hip so it also depends on what your doctor thinks. A consult is your best place to start

Nothing hurt by having the consultation! You're not committing at that point, right? To answer your question, yes - I would consider (not saying would do) a tummy tuck after I am done with kiddos. Heck, after one and having lost the baby weight - my tummy is jut not the same. I'm with you on I hate my belly and want to hide it (why won't the flab just disappear, lol!) and I think it would suck to go the whole rest of your life feeling that way. I don't think its vain

Hi Molly,

I had a tummy tuck in late May of this year. The reason? I have worked my tail off for almost two years and am down 80lbs and had a full term twin pregnancy six years ago. My lower tummy was disgusting. It hung over and literally would "flop" around...very embarassing to me during intimicy with my husband. My husband made it clear he thought I was beautiful no matter what but I hated my stomach. Being only 38 I could not imagine going through the rest of my life with this stomach when it could be fixed so easily. So, I did it and oh, man am I so happy with the results. It was the best $8,500 I have EVER spent in my life. My surgery was actually hip to hip with a little bit of lipo in the hips. I was completly awake during the surgery although I have no memory of it thanks the the amnesiac effects of Versed. The hydrocodone did wonderful to help curve the pain and helped me sleep through the first couple of days. No doubt about it, I was sore for the first week but I wasn't bedridden like one of the mamas below said. The compression garment supported me wonderfully for the first week so that I was more than able to resume "light duty" activities around the house on the third day (my dr. told me I could get back on my treadmill on the 4th day!) I do have a scar that is still fading but it is very low and for the first time probably every in my life I wore a bikini this summer and the scar was completely hidden with the bottom part so the only two people that see it are me and hubby. I certainly don't want to push you into doing anything you aren't comfortable with, but the experience was wonderful for me and has given me tremendous confidence. Everytime I slide into my clingy size 8 Levis's jeans, my husband always makes some little remark about how hot I am. He didn't say that to me before when I had a big pooch in the front (but I don't hold that against him)...he might have thought I was beautiful before but I think he thinks I'm sexy now and I kind of like that after 20 years of marriage he thinks that :-)

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes, I would get a tummy tuck. Anyone can call it vain that so chooses, but five kids later and I would love to wear pants that look cute.

Do research on specific doctors through medical associations. Find out if they have had any complaints. Ask your doctor who he would recommend or if he has heard of anyone that does good work and then start researching there. Go to several consults and ask questions. And, most of all, if at any point you feel uncomfortable run, don't walk, to the nearest exit.

I had liposuction almost three weeks ago to finally take care of my ugly muffin top!
I considered a tummy tuck too, but I was worried about the recovery time, and I think the results from the lipo will give me what I'm looking for (basically a better silhouette.) I'm seeing the change already!
The biggest thing of course is to use a doctor who is board certified in plastic surgery (they could be certified in something else and still practice plastic surgery.) Start by asking your regular doctor for a referral and go from there.
Good luck!

All surgery involves risks. You must be 100% honest with your doctor even about nonlegal drugs, herbs, and over the counter pills. You do not want to have complications because you didn't be upfront.
If the only thing wrong was my stomach, if I was in no way going to get pregnant again, and if I was healthy... I would find a board certified, experienced plastic surgeon and get it done.

What a wonderful husband you have!!! It's not vain, and if I had the money I would do it. I hate mine too. I know my mom's friend and her daughter (about my age mid-30's) had it done. I think it was around 6-10K, her daughter worked for the plastic surgeon. I'm done having kids and would like some of it to go away or move to my pancake butt...

GO TO THE CONSULT!! Any questions or concerns you have will be answered :)

I'm 27... waiting for my tax return... this time next year, brand new flat tummy for me, WOO HOOO!!

I would have done this years ago if I had the money!!

If you google Dr Thomas Dewire in Richmond, VA, his website is wonderful. My girl friend just got her boobs lifted by him, and my OBGYN recommended him. They can also answer some questions over the phone.

Good luck!! :)

PS... If you have any questions, feel free to PM me :)

First off your husband sounds awesome! Since your muscles probably are literally damaged then look into your insurance, they will most likely cover most of the procedure. I don't think you are being vain at all, at 5'3" having 3 kids and still being only 115 is more than a lot of people can say so be proud of that. You are absolutely right, no amount of working out will do anything to fix your stomach and that's all there is to it.. So not only have your busted your butt to pop out 3 huge kids but now you have to forever hide because of the way it left your body looking? That doesn't seem very fair. When you go to the consult (because I really think you should at least go talk to someone) it's going to sound scary as hell, I promise, but it's not a horrible process. If you go to reputable sites online (like WebMD) you can get some good info, talk to people in your area and get them to recommend a plastic surgeon, and just go talk to them. And if you're getting a tummy tuck it makes the boob job a lot less expensive :) I promise that when you do it you'll wish you'd done it years ago.. I still say that my surgery (no tummy tuck yet.. as soon as I deliver though:) ) was the BEST money I ever spent.

I dont' think you are vain or that having a tummy tuck is silly. By all means, at least have the consultation, so you have some knowledge.

Me? I wouldn't. At least not now while I have little kids. I wouldn't volunteer for surgery and anesthsia. it isn't worth the risk to my life when I am the mother of young children. That is not said to make you feel bad, but tha tis genuinely a concern for me.

I would invest the money towards the gym and nutritionist. You will feel so much better for a long run. Short cuts never work. no surgery and no physical and emotional recovery.

Yes I would get a tummy tuck but I would first try different kinds of exercise. I would want to be in the best physical shape before the surgery which could help reduce my recovery time.

Best of everything to you. Keep us posted on your progress and results.

OMG, YES!!! I have had 4 c sections and the last one was a vertical incision! I have no muscle tone left! Yuck! If/when I ever get down to my goal weight, the first call I make when I get off the scale is to a plastic surgeon to get this floppy skin gone!!! And to put my "bubbies" back where they belong! Go for it girl! You deserve to feel beautiful and sexy! It is pretty difficult to do that with a flap of skin flopping around while you are "getting busy"! Good luck!!
