My three year old grand-daughter has yeast infections all the time. Any idea on what could be the cause of them.. Hear sugar could be as she does eat a lot of sugar. Also have heard that soap jn a bath could cause them.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yes, she was diagnosed before, has been to the doctor quite a few times but the infection keeps coming back. She does eat quite a bit of sugary treats. Just hate to see her have the infections so often. She has been to the doctor a few times with them now. and been perscribed meds and creams. Thands for your answers so far. She did spend quite a bit of time in the pool this summer.

Definitely sugar. If she's been on antibiotics very much, that is another big one. Taking probiotics can be very helpful...as well as backing way off on the sugar.

Hi B.,
Antibiotics can do it, too much sugar can too. I don't want to freak you out at all but has she been checked for diabetes? I've heard it can cause constant yeast infections especially if you can't ever get rid of it. Just a thought. Good luck love.

Yeast infections are very rare in children before puberty-- the lack of estrogen does not support yeast growth. Has this been diagnosed or is it based on symptoms?

Bacteria can sometimes thrive in the area-- especially in a young child who may not wipe as well after a bowel movement. Soap can cause vulvar irritation which can cause imbalance and lead to least but again not likely in one so young. Urinary tract infections can sometimes cause symptoms like yeast- itching and burning.

Also, I hate to bring it up but in a young child with complaints of genital problems ruling out any potential for their being abused is very important.

If she likes yogurt, try giving her some daily. Also, make sure that she is being checked for a bacterial infection, similar symptoms, but the treatments are different, and it could be why she is having numerous problems. Good luck!

Soap does not cause them. Here is what can...

#1 culprit -- Not wiping from front to back.
Sitting in a tub for too long. Try showers?
Dyed/non-cotton underwear. Use all cotton with white-only "crotch".
Staying in a wet swimsuit too long.
Staying in very sweaty underwear too long (like after exercising).
I have heard sugar, but I'm not sure if that's true or not.

Try yogurt or acidopholus from a health store (maybe check with doctor first on the amount to give her, though).

try acidopholus milk to help cear it up also yougert with acidopholus in it. limit the sugar, i dont know if soap can cause yeast but it will deffinately irritate yeast, also some antibiotics can cause yeast in some people.
