Ok so my ex just decided to put underwear on our 2 1/2 yr old son. My son just started potty training a few months ago and i know is not ready for underwear. But i tried asking him to follow a every 30min potty session with our son and he never did. Now he does this, without discussing with me what he is going to do so we can be on the same page. He doesn't get it and it is really starting to piss me off. So i want to know how old your sons were when they became potty trained and when did you start putting underwear on them?? Thanks moms

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

it has nothing to do with permission!!! It has to do with working together which he is incapable of doing. If i am doing one thing and he the other than our son will get confused, dont you think?

each child is a little different.

My 1st son I would put him in underware and see how he did and the day he got up to pee in the other room was the last of pull ups. We went thru lots of underware but he was trained in 3 days for pee poop took longer,.
He was trained by 2 1/2
My second stood up one day in the tub and looked at himself and then a min. later he peed again I knew he was ready. He was funny I had him in underware and he was trained in a day but sometimes he would go into his room take off his close and put on his pull up pee, then throw out the pull up get dressed and come out I went potty. Stinker he trained w/ poop and pee right away just the game.Trained by 2 1/2 (he stoped the pull up switch by 3.

My son (now 22), was potty trained very late, he was around 4. I put him in underwear at 2 1/2 and for almost a whole year he had accidents. We just cleaned them up & kept at it. At 3 1/2 he was day time trained but not night time trained till around 4. I now have a 3 y/o daughter, and we are just putting her in underwear for the first time. I personally don't believe in pull-ups, it just confuses the child. The main thing is being consistent, and being on the same page with this otherwise it will take longer. Good luck!!

My nephew was 34 months when he was potty trained (just this month actually). He was in underwear within a couple days of starting training. My SIL and I immersed ourselves in potty training and both of our children were trained in less than a week. My daughter, who is the same age as my nephew, was 27 months. She was in underwear the first day of potty training.

Hi T.,
We potty trained my son when he was 3. I put him in underwear the day we decided to train him. he has been in them ever since. He still wears a pull up at night and thinks it's alroght to pee in them. We have him put underwear on as soon as he wakes up. He will be 4 in 10 days, and this has worked for us.
Good luck,
L.

I have two boys and the olderst was potty trained at 26 months and the second was trained two weeks after he turned two. Neither of them ever used pull-ups. I feel like its still a diaper and if they know they can pee in it they will. I put them in underwear right away and within a day or two they were using the potty all the time. The every 30 minute potty sessions is exactly what I did for the first day and after that they catch on pretty quick.

T. - I do agree that whatever is decided for potty training you and your ex need to be consistent.

Hi, T.:
So you don't think your ex has a right to do things without your
permission?

Just want to know.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi T., my boys were not completely potty trained until near or even after their 4th birthday (in hindsight I really wished I had not kept trying long after it was clear they were not ready, too much stress for all of us). My daughter, however (the youngest) took her diaper off at 18 months, climbed up on the pot and that was the end of diapers forever.

Yes, it's better for both of you to be consistent, if he doesn't mind cleaning up the messes, and is not reacting strongly when your son has an accident, I guess that's his problem. It will not aid in his relationship with his son if he is pushing and pushing, but your ex chooses his own relationship with his son (sad for him, but not much YOU can do, 'cept maybe suggest some websites or books on the subject).

Every child is different, and you'll get a very wide range of answers to this one.

We started low-key potty training at 2 (practicing sitting on the potty in the mornings first thing, and wearing pullups during the day) and put my son in underpants just before he was 2 1/2. Once we put him in underpants, he was completely trained in a few days.

I have 4 boys and 1 girl. I introduced my boys to underwear around that age, but I wasn't expecting much. Its totally up to them when they do the"Big boy thing"! But you can begin to encourage it. Let them feel what its like to be wet. Let him run around the house in them. Remind him once in a while, and soon he'll be interested. I wish you luck, but remember, they grow up sooo fast!
