Youth Carseat/bootster Seat Advice

Hi Everyone,
My 7 month old baby girl will be going into my 4 year old son's britax car seats as soon as we get him new one. I was looking at the Britax Frontier and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it. It converts into a booster, which seems cool. I know that I want to keep him in a 5 point harness as long as possible. Are there less expensive brands that you could recommend? This is the one item I will refuse to compromise safety for price of course, but more money doesn't necessarily mean safer. The marathon car seat he has is great and I want to make sure I move him into something just as comfortable.

What can I do next?

I have had good luck with the Graco Nautilus. My six year old is still harnessed in it and has a little more room to grow. It goes up to 65 pounds harnessed (my six year old is pretty skinny - he's only 50 pounds) and then it can turn into a booster. He says it's very comfortable, and you can get it at Wal-Mart for around $150. I plan on getting another one in the next few months for my 3 year old since his carseat is about to expire. I'm just hoping I can fit both of them along with an infant seat into my second row of seats - we're due in July with our 3rd baby boy. Good luck!

Britax "Regent" model has a 5 point harness system and the seat is tethered to the vehicle. This is the most important part: that the seat is tethered to the vehicle. It accomodates a child up to 80 pounds. It's rather expensive, but the peace of mind is worth every penny.

We went from Britax seats to a Graco Nautilus and I've been very happy with the seat. It's a 5-pt booster with a cup holder.

Go to youtube and search "5 point car seat". Lots of advice and warnings against boosters. I think that there is a Britax 5 point seat that goes up to 85 or 100 pounds. I'll be searching that one out soon for my 40 pound almost 5 year old!
Goodluck!

You can get a free car seat for your baby through the county. I can't remember exactly where it is you have to go. When I worked at the Child Abuse Council they had us send Mom's for free car seats. You have to have the baby with you to get one. I am thinking it was the Plant City Police Department but not sure. You can call the Child Abuse Council to find out where you go to get the free car seat. But I do know we sent all of our Mom's to get one and they are brand new, never used.

I would check out the Graco Nautilus. That is what we got for our 2nd car. It is a 5 point harness up to 65 lbs, then a booster seat up to 100 lbs. The only thing I like better about our Britax Marathon is it's easier to buckle in the car. Other then that it's a great seat. Good Luck!
