My 15 year old son has acne. We have tried a couple of treatments with so-so results. I was wondering if anyone has tried the Zeno Acne system. It's fairly expensive so I would like your feedback.
I know lots of you have products that you think will help, but I just want to hear from someone who has used the Zeno.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Mamas,
Thanks so much for your replies regarding the Zeno. We won't add this to our regimen.

This is what works for me and my daughter: ORIGINS "Never a Dull Moment" face scrub. But we use it as a daily MASK! 30 min. before shower, apply to face. Walk around for 30 min. Jump in shower, leave on until end of shower, then rub it off. The papaya enzymes in the mix seem to dissolve away oils and exfoliate. It costs more than you'd pay for St. Ives Apricot Scrub - -which I used in my twenties - - but a jar lasts a long time.

Hi Victoria,

I have used Zeno and would NOT recommend it for teenage acne. You have to wait for the little machine to heat up, then hold it on one pimple at a time for a full minute each. For safety reasons, you can only do three pimples in a row and then the machine shuts itself off so you have to wait and repeat the cycle for another three pimples, etc. If a face has more than three pimples on it, this can be extremely time-consuming. I can't imagine a teenager having that kind of patience. Each cartridge is only good for 25 uses, so yes, it does get very expensive.

I recently discovered Origins "Spot Remover" and have been very impressed with how it works on my adult acne. I would also recommend trying Proactiv. It can be very drying but seems to work. Also, check with a dermatologist before it gets too out of control. Severe acne can be so hard on a child's self-esteem!

Good luck to you,

M.

Be careful with Zeno! We bought this system and my 17 year old daughter was using it. She cleaned it with alcohol after each treatment but one of the blemishes she had started to get really red after a treatment with Zeno. After 24 hours it was huge, oozy & very inflammed. I took her to the dermatologist to find out she had staff! It took a round of high dose antibiotics and strong benzoyl peroxide ointment and about 10 days to clear it up. It was on her face & created a lot of difficulties. The dermatologist said that it wasn't a problem with how she was cleaning the Zeno it was that the Zeno creates heat which encouraged the normal bacteria on her skin to grow & go crazy, which led to the staff. We no longer use Zeno at all.

The doctor has her use a mild antibacterial soap along with her regular face washing regiment twice a week now & her skin has really improved. She gets mild break outs around her cycle now but alot of the other issues are gone.

My two teens use the products for acne from Melaleuca. I have a daughter and a son and both have used these products. They are awesome and don't dry out their faces. I use many other products from Melaleuca for my home and love them all. Let me know if interested. Thanks

I own a Zeno. If your son has one or two bumps at a time, it may be effective. I tried using it on large pimples, when they first come up. I think it probably did help them go away faster, but did not keep them from coming.

Have you seen dermatologist? For the price of the zeno, I would see the doctor. I have been prescribed Accutane twice, as a teen and after my son was born. It is a miracle drug for acne. It does have some side effects. The serious ones are very rare and the normal ones (dry skin, dry hair) are so worth it.

I also use a regimen thay I learned about on acne.org. But, I think for teen hormonal acne, accutane is the best way to get ahead of it. The acne.org regimen is a great maintenance system. I also know several teenagers who have used accutane lately, with great success.

Please get this under control ASAP. I don't think people who do not have acne quite understand the psychological and emotional effects it has on teenagers. I was lucky to have a parent who had acne as a teen. My dad was willing to do anything to help me. Thanks to quick and aggressive treatment, I was able to enjoy being a teen and am scar free.

I don't know if Zeno works but I did want to tell you that the Walmart at Marketplace Drive (off Northwest Highway) in Garland had several in the clearance aisle for $40 - less than half what they normally costs. That was yesterday...not sure if there are any left, but thought I would share.

I have 2 teen boys as well. They have medicine from the doctor that works! The problem is getting them to use it. I realize that they have to have ownership of this or they will not do what is necessary for the treatment to work. My daughter, 17, does what is needed and has made huge changes in her skin! I have used the Zeno myself and it seems to help but you have to hold it on one spot at a time. My boys would never do that. Good Luck!

Dear Victoria,
I have not used that system, but in my 12 years of experience with Mary Kay teaching skin care...he absolutely needs to do Cleansing, MASKING (specifically made to clear up acne/mine is called Clarifying mask), Toner (with acne medication), acne treatment gel (pinpoints acne spots) and a moisturizer that sucks up excess oil.
If you want some before and after shots of a young man who put forth the effort to be consistent and cleared up his acne just let me know.
My favorite part of Mary Kay is that it is 100% guaranteed. This way you don't have a drawer full of buying mistakes.

We don't use Zeno, but my son used Proactive and it seems to have done a good job that he doesn't need it anymore. My son is 15 and has beautiful skin now.

Is ur son motivated to get rid of the acne? Sometimes it's just the parents who r bothered by it. Start with him just washing his face more often with Cetaphil or purpose wash (get at walmart for <$5). It's just that age....
